Well, I guess as an NT here I can put out my point of view in this discussion. I ended up here because I am friends with one of the people who started it, and he did not ask me to join but I did so on my own because I really enjoy the community set up here. I do not post very often because I do feel awkward in some of the areas so I simply chose not to post there. If someone is talking about a bad day they had I am not going to join in and say I know how they feel because I am certain I do not having been friends with someone with AS for a year now and seeing the things he goes through.

I do not feel that there is any reason to post on something like that, but on things that are unrelated to things about AS such as doughy pizza I don't mind posting because it is very general and I think that this is a very accepting group.

I also enjoy more insight into some of the things teens with AS go through because I have read all kinds of things on-line and a book on it, but reading things from teens here gives me a better idea of things (again, I know I will never know what it is like) that I have seen my friend have to deal with and try to understand why he does some of the things he does.

That's all for me for now. Thanks for reading.

You are right, this was a revelation, not decision. A revelation that still doesn't let me sleep, I might add.

One can be intelligent and unique without paying the price of miserable childhood and then being an adult misfit. If one strives to achieve, being a misfit is a handicap. At least this was my experience and that of many aspies and auties whose accounts I have read on the net. Correct me if I am wrong.
Oh well, it's not the first time I don't understand the inhabitants of this planet...

No, I am from Poland, but I now live in the US. Thanks for the compliment about my English. I also speak French and Russian. I used to be reasonably fluent in these languages, but allowed them to rust. Yet nothing is lost, languages come back when one starts using them again. I was also learning German for some time, but can't say that I can speak it. What about you?

P.S. In my original post Norway was a word play meaning "NORmal WAY", i.e. NT world. (No offense intended to Norwegians!)

Well, I see what you're saying. But with any post, consider the source. I didn't want to put a thing underneath the poster's name indicating the diagnosis, because a lot of people detest such labels.

And obviously, as we get to know one-another and get used to the site, we've read a handful of posts by a person and probably looked at their profile, and that can give someone a better picture of who their comments are coming from.

As always, you can look in anyone's profile to see what they've said their diagnosis is, be it AS, NT, or a few other possibilities, if you wish. But don't see that as some sort of end-all towards knowing who a person is.

I see your points, but I'm still not really convinved of the need for an NT forum.

The entire site is for all types of people, and we've made the forum sections split by topic/purpose, rather than by type of person. Most topics posted on these forums can have relevance to many people, regardless of what diagnosis they have. Just as we get to know one-another, and the core group of posters becomes apparent, we can understand each other's perspectives more on things.

On the forums on AspergerInfo.com, which is largely oriented towards parents, I've responded to posts prefacing them with my background, that I'm a teen with Asperger's, and not some kinda parenting expert. I dunno, that might have been uneccessary.

Having the diagnosis in our profile is just as close as having them under our member name. Those that detest having labels should be able to choose "No Response" for their diagnosis in their profile.

I think that an NT response to a post is, in a way, kind of like getting a new question to an old answer. It's good to see how we're perceived by NTs. I do, however think that there should be an "NT centred" forum. We do have NT members, many of whom have Aspie friends and relatives. Would it not be good for us to have a parallel forum for NTs so that they could talk to one another about their experiences with us? I mean, we have our world here, and they should be allowed theirs. An NT forum could also be used by the NTs on our site to ask us questions.

Instead of saying "Hi, I'm an NT and I have a question" they could just post their question on that forum or message board. Such a board could be used to ask us general questions about how we would like them to deal with certain things that we do, or for them to discuss with one another their recent experience with their aspie child/friend/relative.

Maybe I'm just being dumb, but I think there should be an NT forum, but it whouldn't be the exclusive place for NTs to post, and it shouldn't bar us from posting either. Just my thought on this whole debate, for what it's worth.

Thanks Taineyah - my point, but you have put it more succinctly (an in a less provocative fashion). I have a nasty habit of sounding "standoffish" at times!

Cheers :D

It is a good idea. I connect with that idea.

"Ask an Aspie" . . . with our own resident panelists! Ha ha ha. It'd be like Meet The Press, Aspie-style... ooohboy.

Hi

Thankyou for your response! :D I am quite sure that I may often seem "hot-headed" on these forums :) . However, it depends on the individual entirely when it comes to "conversating" [conversing?] with me. I can assure you, I've spoken to many good people via this forum; yourself being one of them :D . Despite not wishing to offend anyone, I believe that one must advocate for one's own views as vigorously as possible.

Afterall if I didn't, who else would?

Faithfully yours

Greg :D :D
