Do you ever worry too much about the original course? Or does your course continue on the new tangent?

It depends. I usually go off on a tangent and then come back to my original course.

I believe in living in the present. Has anyone had any original ways of thinking that, should one be actually listening, would be enlightened by? Not a quote from someone else. Something they actually came up with. My brain is fogged down and would like some thing intelligent to hear/read with out all the jargon that some put around it so that 'social' minded people can first be comforted by it.

Staying in the present is really important to recovery, and recovery is really important to me. So, I have to address this often -- certainly more often than daily. At least hourly? Anyway, here are two concepts, which may sound a little trite at first but which become fairly meaningful when you're actually living them:

"Right now is all you have."

"Stop living in the wreckage of your future."

I'm not confident in my authorship of either of these little catch-phrases; but, I'm not sure that they're somebody else's either. Take that for what you will. And they're more than slogans, I think (I hope?) in that there is really something substantial behind them. Practically speaking, one of the two of them is usually enough to snap me back into the moment. The first tends to work in dreamy, existential-type moods; the second tends to work in fear and anxiety based moods.

Thank you! I love them both. I will write them down and put them on my fridge. Excellent :D

I have always found quotes by Blaise Pascal to be mind stimulating, and heart warming. Here are two of my favorites:

“When I consider the short duration of my life, swallowed up in the eternity before and after, the little space I fill, and even can see, engulfed in the infinite immensity of space of which I am ignorant, and which knows me not, I am frightened, and am astonished at being here rather than there, why now rather than then?”
---Blaise Pascal

All human evil comes from a single cause, man's inability to sit still in a room.
---Blaise Pascal

Here's something from my own foggy and tired mind:

Relationships were built in the past, will crumble in the future, and some never existed at all. But a relationship can only be mend in the present. It's the present experiences that makes a relationship last forever.

Because a molecule of h2o is required to add up to the ocean. Because a grain of sand in it's place helps create the statue of beauty. And finally, why not both ...now and then!

This is sooo cool! I don't even know if you understand what I wrote...but I do and it's wonderful to think!

Thank you for sharing :)

I have a bunch of 'em. These cute phrases pop into my head so I started writing them down.

Open your mind to the universe but don't try to take it all in. Your brain is too small and it might explode.

Here's another:

You can live a little every day or you can die a little every day. Choose wisely.

One more:

Acting like a child is foolish. Seeing like a child is magic.

Maybe I'll make a print out of all these and have them in a box to pick out of! Might help focus for a day...or hour...

Now this one puzzles me. How does one think in 'songs'?
