That was beautiful.

You know, I was thinking, since the topic focuses on AS and super powers, maybe people on the spectrum because they are more apt to reject or question the voice of authority, might also be more inclined than someone who doesn't question authority, to entertain the idea that they have super powers. Also, perhaps spending more time in one's mind without inhibiting the thought processes would contribute to a greater range of ideas that go beyond the accepted realm of possibility. All great inventions, discoveries and accomplishments began as a seed in the mind that was nourished. Seeing is believing.

I have superpowers, mwahaha! I can...hm... leap small puddles in a single bound?

I think that the goal is not to use anything as an excuse, but to recognize the things that make you who you are, and what things may be more difficult for you because of it. Just because you don't have your lower leg doesn't mean you can't become a marathon runner, it will just be a lot harder. Just because you are deaf and blind doesn't mean you can't have a profound impact on society, even if you are a woman in a time when women aren't taken seriously. It is just a lot harder. Just because you don't have arms and legs doesn't mean your can't be a pro bass fisherman, it is just a lot harder. Just because you have AS doesn't mean you can't learn to communicate with people and live a productive fulfilling life, it may just be a lot harder.

However, nothing worth having was ever free. I think aspies are in the unique position to value certain things more than NT's. And when something is valuable, it is used more wisely. I am amazed and awed every single time I greet someone new, or have a good conversation with someone where I don't feel stupid afterwards because I could communicate what I was thinking in a timely manner. And I can use some things that are in my aspie nature to improve things others' can't figure out.

On the flip-side. I need to be careful to recognize when my social reserves are depleted, or when sensory overload is about to make me scratch a hole into my arm or shut down.

but I do have a hightened sense of smell, which is more of a burden then anything, you all stink in a nutshell.

I freak people out way too much with this. "I thought you quit smoking?" "How many cats do you have?" "You should seriously consider using foot powder dude."

I was able to smell a visitor that came to the house a few days after he had left and so I freaked my Mum out because I asked who he was (she was dating him but didn't feel I was ready to know). I explained that I smelled the guy and I hadn't developed super-powers (also pointed to the extra wine glass :) ). He smelled as bad as his personality.

My sense of smell isn't so good as it used to be though sadly and happily.

Happily, I don't spend much time in nutshells.

The OP is quite distressing news.

I'll return my costume for a refund.

Seriously, though - after decades of problems, I am glad to finally have explanations.

No; I don't have super powers but I can focus on things and solve problems my peers can't.
Out side of my focus areas I'm an idiot though ;)

Kids that appear in public wearing superhero outfits are often bullied. Always where neurotypical clothing over the top of your outfits

Being a NT means that you have super abilities, primarily telepathy.

I tried that. The guy said that after you've defeated a supervillain while wearing the costume, they can't refund your money.

The really surprising part was that they considered my neighbor's cat a supervillain...

But, but... I can leap tall buildings in a single bound. :(

I agree with the original poster on this. I love the part about NTs having problems too. Everyone has issues. I have never met a person who didn't have any. I have never met anyone who is completely perfect.
