I am similar to you. I too adapt things from television for my own imaginary world, but I'm not sure whether I do it the exact same way as you. I take characters from whatever shows/movies I'm obsessed with and imagine new adventures for them, using my own setting and borrowing themes and motifs from other shows/movies. My imagination is basically a mish-mash of everything I love. That's why I spend so much time there and I rarely ever get bored.

I also run with headphones to trigger going into my imagination, though I like running around in circles outside at the park rather than running on a treadmill.

I do it a tiny bit differently, but our methods are basically similar (the whole "mish-mash" thing primarily), I feel.

I create my own character/worlds by establishing a "base world" (the universe of Sailor Moon for me right now, as an example), and then "corrupting (adding more depth to them or turning them darker/gooder than they were intended)" a few old characters and mashing other characters together to create new ones. I then use these characters to create a mock version of things I see in other stories (such as certain types of relationships, fights, etc.) I spend a lot of my time in my head too, imagining "oh, what if this character was a girl instead of a boy? How would that affect that character's relationship with such-and-such?". Just like the world I've been working on now for about 2 and a 1/2 years, these worlds eventually evolve into something quite different than the "base series" that they evolved from. It's quite fun.

So, yeah, basically the same I think- just some of the particulars are different. Sorry for ranting. ^^::

I like running outside too, but it's more convenient for me to run on a treadmill or go on one of those half-treadmill half-stepmaster thingies that I see sometimes in gyms (the latter is probably even more likely to inspire imagination leaps for me- which helps in tiring them out).

I am like that but I use Stargate as a Base world that I use my imagination.

Cool! Do you incorporate ideas from many other television series into your world? Is this the first world you've had?

Your world kind of reminded me- I used to have a Star Trek world that ruled my mind for a couple of months before my latest one. Semi-realistic science fiction worlds are really cool, eh? Harder for me to do than anime, but well worth the effort, at least in my opinion.

@ IdahoRose: I've used concepts from Trinity Blood and Hellsing in my current universe (agree with not being able to make it darker- both series are great, but so dark). Some worlds tend to become ridiculous in the end, I agree, when looked at objectively. My Yu-Gi-Oh universe was that way, although in an opposite way. It became far, far, far too dark and so became like a horror/comedy.

I find it fascinating that you have a universe based upon Tim Burton movies (which are some of my favourite/most inspiring movies). I can agree that some worlds are better represented by anime/animation than RL characters.

In terms of creating new characters, I can have them be children of original characters, but they are more often weirder (like posessions, etc.) Either that or they can be the children of previously created original characters or their ancestors. Slash tends to occur among my original characters, but I like implying it, not outright stating it most of the time unless the character's characteristics demand it.

I don't daydream anywhere near as much as I did years ago. I was always criticized for it and I hated myself for doing it, so I learned to stop myself from daydreaming. Now I wish I could really get into it, but almost all my thoughts revolve around things I would rather not think about. Like taking a SAT for example. I just had a dream about that a few hours ago.

I can tell you more about my Tim Burton-based universe if you'd like, though I feel I must reiterate that I've changed the backstories of a lot of characters (among other things) and I am a fan of slash fiction, so there are obviously some big changes between the movies and my imagination. I'd also like to hear more about your world as well! Yours sounds so fascinating and complex. If you would like some more privacy when discussing these things, send me a PM! :)

That would be a pleasure (I really don't mind changed backstories- I do that with some of my characters as well). I am a fan of slash, so slash doesn't bother me either.

*laugh* I'll send you a PM, then.

Oh dear... don't get me going. I could probably go on forever about this aspect of my existence.
I usually need a trigger, such as the Stargate universe or, currently, Star Trek. Then I make characters and go-- to-- town. I do have my own made-up world, but I explore it all too infrequently.

I have several, Stargate is just one of them. I would like to take me from my universe and put me in that situation.

1. Avatar the last airbender in this universe I would like to make myself as a character from this earth and thrown into the avatar universe like you see in those fanfics that you read. There are three things that I would do in that world. 1. I would join the Gaang and go on their adventures that they have and tell them all the wonderful technology's of earth.2. I would like to be an inventor and work for the mechanist and give the Fire Nation nuclear weapons so they could drop on Ba sing se or some bizarre thought like that or give them guns, planes, bombs. 3. I would like to bring the Gaang to our world so that they could see what it is like here

2. Star Trek: I would like to go to this universe when I am bored because then I would think about I am the same person from the stargate universe and I would join starfleet and give the Federation all the technology from the stargate universe and I would show the Federation the "Replicators"

3. I would go into the Lord of the Rings universe when I am bored.
4. Think about what the future will be like.
5.Make a crossover between Chronicles of Narnia and Avatar the last airbender these are the few that I have that I want to do for some reason I don't know why. But what do you think of my weird ideas?

I went into the arts with my imagination and it has served me well. Now when I am being spacy...its creative.
Anyway most of my in my own world stuff usually comes from reading about someone and then I take that person in my imagination and have conversations with that person saying things I wish I could say in person, Most of my imagination stuff has been role play learning how to socialize with others. however 99.99 percent of the time, the conversation I dream up, never happens....which is disappointing.

but as far as your fantasy world, hang out with artsy people and learn how to use that creativity in a way that will move you forward. You cant really stop an active imagination you can just channel it. Imagine a stream flowing quickly but narrowly down its own course, then imagine a beaver family builds a network of dams which causes the stream to spread into wetlands and then making it productive for many different kinds of animals to live, feed and bear young. Channeling your creativity is the same way.

They seem really cool! Very different from my style (I make up a character and follow their creation, life, and eventual death/resolution as an invisible, omnipotent and omnipresent narrative entity).

I echo what the people above me have said- try getting involved in something that can channel your imagination.

I think that you would be a good fanfiction author on www.fanfiction.net it seems like you would have good writing skills to make you're own fanfiction stuff.

Perhaps, never really seriously tried to make fan fiction before, I'm more of a fan artist, really. Thanks for the compliment, though, I might stake more of my imagination there in a bit.

It sounds like you could be really good on a forum dedicated to roleplaying. You could create your own character, and interact with others people's characters (I know I've seen ones from Avatar: The Last Airbender with people playing canon and OC characters).

Most of the time when I am on a forum I post questions more than I answer them and people would get really annoyed with me quickly. I have almost been banned form a few of them because I keeped posting questions (I don't know maybe I am more curious to ask questions) But sometimes my post are so bad that people think that I am stupid or an idiot.

I thought that you would be great at fanfiction because you seem like you could come up with really interesting ideas and write about them. I would like to see what you could come up.
There is another universe that I like to be apart of a universe called Valkyria chronicles which is an alternate ww2 setting and it has a great story and characters and It is also anime you should check it out on youtube but I liked it so much even though I never played it I have seen some really good fanfiction based off of that.I would like to see my self joining squad 7. It is just a random thought that I had it is really cool you should check it out.
PS: Do you know what that Avatar the last airbender roll play forum is and what website?

Unfortunately, I do not. It's been some years since I looked through role play websites myself so I have no clue what's popular or not as goes for TV-Movie-based roleplays.

Sad about what happened to you. I'll check out that series, though, it sounds pretty cool.

Thanks for the compliment, it's something that I enjoy doing (coming up with stuff, I mean- there are certain advantages to having a TV in your head sometimes)! You sound like you could come up with some very interesting stuff too.

You are seriously the coolest person in the Universe right now.

What I do is I create my own Stargate fanfiction in my head. I started with Atlantis but moved on to SG1. I get stuck on certain characters. Right now it's Daniel Jackson.

Although sometimes I visualize myself talking to bands that I used to see before my sensory issues kicked in. But I would be talking to them about my other interests. Something I never used to do because of the looks I usually get from other people when I talk about that stuff.

Sometimes while sitting with a group of people and listening to them talk my mind would wander off and I'll start seeing dome creatures from Primeval or see alien spaceships overhead.

Although lately I have been coming up with my own vivid sci-fi story that is a mixture of Stargate and Doctor Who. I used to make up my own Doctor Who fanfiction in my head too.

This vivid imagination of mine is seriously the only thing that gets me to sleep at night.

I have a persona who is an anthropomorphic fox... In other words, yes, I have a very vivid imagination for somebody my age. It helps me write and produce music though, so it has its advantages ^_^
