I was watching a documentary in 2002 about it, to me it seemed like the most nerdy and loserish things to have and was glad I didn't.
But then 2 years later, surprise surprise!

Gah - thread asks "When", poll options are "Where". :?

I first heard the term several years ago and associated it with 'that Rain Man thing'.
I realised what it really meant a couple of years ago when I read a post (on a site unrelated to Autism) from someone about their discovery.
