This works. But you can't listen while rehearsing the words so you miss parts of the conversation.

Yeah, that's basically why it doesn't work for me.

I'm usually the interrupted one and the problem is when someone interrupts me then I lose my train of thought. I know someone who continually interrupts me to finish my sentences for me. Irritating, especially since she's always completely wrong about what she thinks I was going to say. Then I lose my train of thought and she says "Oh, well". I could strangle her. I suggested the repeating thing but really maybe the best thing is to just listen to the person and trust that what you wanted to contribute after the person finishes speaking will come back to you.

Yep.

My mind only has room for one thing--or one group of interconnected things (that I can think about as a single thing)--and I'm extremely distractable. I'll be in the middle of a sentence and then my eye will catch an object, and my attention will become entirely dedicated to what I'm looking at and I'll forget what I was saying.

I'm guilty of both rudely interrupting and talking without letting other people speak--when I can't stop talking it's usually because if I don't manage to speak all the words I can find for a complicated thought while those words are still in my mind, then I'll forget them, and the other person's words will often displace my original thought.

Same here. I basically script everything out in my head before I say it because if I try to jump straight from thought to speech I'll jumble my words up. I mean, small sentences I'm fine, but anything more than ten or fifteen words and I need go over it in my head a few times to make sure I'm saying exactly what I want to say. Unfortunately, by the time I'm done doing that, the time to say what I wanted has passed. XD

That's worse, plus I have a friend that is allergic to dust. I guess I could type it into the computer when one is around.

The environment is like a mini special interest to me.

Happens to me quite often, mostly because I'm thinking about something else.
