I'm exactly the same with textures, I prefer dry, bland foods, and I would rather that the items on my plate didn't touch so that I could eat them one at a time. I do have problems with certain flavours too, but as you said, the texture is more important.

Since I was a child I have been picky. When my parents and I went out for Chinese I would literally only eat rice with soy sauce! As I've gotten older I've tried more things, expanding my tastes. Despite this I still cannot eat most fruit (why do most fruits have such strange textures?! I gag!), cold food that is meant to be warm (looking at you cold pizza), most seafood, and mushrooms.

I've found it easier and more polite to tell people I have food allergies when offered a food I can't eat!

I wasn't always too fussy about what i eat but as i got out of primary school i got kinda bad, and its never stopped really. wont eat most fish, wont eat jacket potatoes but will eat mash potato, i dont eat white bread only brown bread. oh and i only eat mature cheddar cheese no other cheese. its not really been a problem so far, but i assume as i go into uni it sort of will, its catered so i guess finding food they serve thats actually good will be a little difficulty.

What foods do you like to eat OP? I would search google for recipes with those and slowly begin to add in things that you've got issues with into those recipes to try and help you get use to the textures/ tastes. For instance, for me, I do not like avocados (texture and taste thing), but the only time I will ever at them is in sushi rolls. But that is what works for me and I'm not sure if it will work for you but it is worth a shot.
