My method was somewhat different, I don't know how they actually expect you to build the pattern.

In these tests I would always build the pattern based on symmetry. Rotating the pattern so that I was sitting looking down the line of symmetry, then grabbing an identical block with each hand, slide them into the pattern in pairs one from each side.

When it hit the patterns that are asymmetrical, it got harder. I think I just built the largest section possible with the method described above, then paused to figure out what I needed to add to finish the pattern.

After I was done the task, the examiner kept building the simple patterns, but swapping blocks so that a single block broke the pattern of colours or symmetry. "do you find the this pattern distracting or annoying?" YES! "Ok, lets set the distracting pattern to one side, and see how long before you ask to correct it."

that is so interesting. i like how the examiner was also looking at your reaction to the asymmetry.

Thats new to me IQ tests for aspergers, I was assessed using DISCO!

we did some other interesting stuff too, like facial memory testing (that part made me cry).

I can understand that hun, my DISCO created a dancefloor fight between me & my mother as part of the assessment involved my mother. She still thinks that Aspergers is a myth

wow, that must have been hard on you.

i had to look at 2 or more faces (up to 8 or 10 at a time), for a few seconds, then find those faces in a larger group. i found it really hard, like a real life situation when i am supposed to recognize people but i don't. so i got frustrated and emotional and i feel like i let those people down (the ones in the pictures. i know it is irrational lol).

I put it together like a quilt block -- I visualized the design divided into quarters, then put a basic block of the design together, then another block of it and connected them, and so on. The first section might have four blocks, then the next section two, etc, depending on how detailed the pattern was. I only had trouble putting one of them together this way.

i completely understand - my parents didn't believe me either. i didn't have an official diagnosis before, but nonetheless they could have been supportive. they thought i made it up for attention.

Well that was my second official diagnosis, I has my first one was a child imo the professionals that did were very unprofessional about it & denied that I was on the speculum. I get the feeling that hatred of the system has had a hand to play in my family's poor attitude. My family don't even understand the meaning of the word support! My mother has the check of calling the ASD trained psychiatric nurse who did the DICSO (last year to this year) a liar & demand an second option from my psychiatric, my psychiatric has no training in ASD diagnosis, as the care and diagnosis of ASD in my city is thought a specialist mental health team (Now thats make my home town Aspie friendly 8) )

I crush this test, scoring in 99th percentile. But I'm not sure how I do it. I just pick up the blocks and assemble the patterns. I irritated a psychologist a little once. On the first pattern he just flipped over a few blocks, said go, and I just flipped them back. He scrambled them up a lot after that.

this cracked me up, because you are crushing the test aspie style... like turning into hulk and ripping off your shirt, then siitting at the table while deftly and calmly flipping over some blocks.

that sounds hard. hopefully your mother will come around about it.

I had no method. I just tried to solve it. I got 50th percentile, which helped lead to my diagnosis of NVLD. The IQ testers/scorers were very puzzled and surprised by my visual-spatial deficits and abilities, because I suck at visual-spatial tasks when timed (like block design), but when I'm NOT timed, I do well (I got 90th percentile on matrices).

that is really interesting. these tests tell us a lot about ourselves, don't they?

cdfox7, it's not a problem :)

I don't remember doing it as a kid. I know I have done it before and am very good at it but I don't remember doing it at doctor offices. But I have always gotten in the average range, never above 15 nor below 6. I have scored between 10-14 if I remember correctly.
