I also feel we miss some of the context.

It's interesting I've never seen anyone else at my workplace who had been laughed at so spontaneously and heartily as me. This is not school, so people supposedly would care more what they give vent to, I think. Everyone knows I eat much (I'm not fat), but it surprised me, when one of my colleagues had given me half of his sandwich, I turned around so I faced more colleagues with sandwich in my hand and mouth, making everyone in my presence bursting out in loud laugh at once. Other time, we were sitting in a meeting of some kind of "brain storming", to bring up new ideas that might be useful. It was about a men's magazine, and when we discussed the column of sexual advices, I happened to say "What is it for?", the result was a long long laud laughing... One of my colleagues told me during this "Don't say anything more.", I stuck to his advice....

is it possible that something else happened as you asked the vegan question, that everyone laughed at?

No because they were all saying things like "Did you get that, he asked her if she was a vegan" and they giggled about that and I got red in my face because I thought I had done something inappropriate and that's why I didn't ask why.

I'm sick of people laughing at me, that's why I posted this thread. I'm not expecting you to come up with a great solution, but thanks for your posts.

My guess is that they're just screwing with you. But really, I have no idea. Insufficient data.

They may not be laughing AT you. They may be laughing because they find you funny or cute. I make people laugh all the time and I never know why they are laughing. Even my husband laughs too. I often wonder if I said something wrong. I used to just think they were laughing because they thought I said something funny but now I think I must have said something wrong.

I do things like that. I don't see anything wrong with it.

But vegans are they not those people who don't use animal products? Was she wearing silk or wool at that time?

It is probably as MrXxx said earlier in the thread and everybody else already knew the answer because you had missed something they caught. When they say, "Did you get that, he asked her if she was a vegan" it means they were amused you didn't already know. I can't tell from context if she was or wasn't, but this comment makes me think the whole class already knew. Perhaps she had announced she was at the beginning of the lecture. Perhaps she had been seen every day in the cafeteria eating chicken so they all knew she wasn't. In any case, it looks like they assumed her status as vegan or not was known and they thought it was funny you didn't know.

No, eating dead plants is funny. Because they were once alive, too. People think fruits and vegetables don't have feelings, and maybe they don't, but how can we know for sure? Maybe apples scream in pain when we bite into one but we just can't hear it.You know what else is funny? When they destroy forests where wild animals live so they have the space to plant crops. Of course that last part wasn't "ha ha" funny. :P

Yeah i could of swore plants are organisms too. huh?
