I'm interested in the rumor about Keanu. I like him, and I know he choses Aspie-type roles, but in interviews he alwasy seemed rather personable. Of course, like the rest of us, he may have learned to fake it. What examples are people using as an example of Keanu Reeves being an Aspie?

I would have thought that a real aspie would be able to act considerably better than Mr. Reeves can....

I knew about Albert Einstein (he is the most famous aspie) and Thomas Edison. I am not sure about Woody Allen, though he has some traits.
Is Bill Gates really an aspie or is he a smart geek ?

Unortunately, there are very few 100% confirmed famous aspies: Steven Spielberg, The bloke out of the "Vines" (whoever they are) and Gary Numan being the only ones I know of who are 100% "outed". All the rest are basically speculation, sadly. And its highly unlikely any of the dead people mentioned can ever be totally confirmed.....

I would be very surprised if Gates was not an Aspie. He does not make eye contact in interviews, and even after years of public speaking, he still speaks a a far more technical level than his audience can understand. Very self centered as well- remember that this, the richest man in the world gave nothing towards charity until Ted Turner called him out on this. This is an oddity in itself, as most super-rich people give to charities as tax write-offs.

I would also like to formally point the aspie finger at James Cameron. His obsession to details, meticulousness, and vision on his projects is legendary.

Its also becoming clear that his "interest" is the Titanic, considering he's spent most of a decade now exploring it and/or making movies on the subject.

Edwin Armstrong... Inventor of frequency modulation. In one of my classes we watched a video about him. He was a loner who had a very introverted personality and was obsessed with his work on radio to the point that he did almost nothing else. He would also do dangerous balancing acts up high on antennas with little concern for his own wellfare.

Sadly though, despite the work he did. David Sarnoff of RCA used legal manuvers to keep his inventions out of peoples home's in favor of his own RCA products while Lee Deforest took credit for what RCA couldn't block through the legal process by filing patent appeals claiming he had done the same things years before hand.

In the end Armstrong lost out. Broke and bitter at what had happened to him, he commited suicide in 1954.

Hm.. I don't know if I've heard anything about Anno himself (the director of Evangelion, Hideki Anno). There is a lot going around about autism as it relates to the show, because of the "AT" fields and the characters putting walls up around themselves to keep others at a distance. I've heard a lot of misinformation about the "AT" field and how it was supposedly a term used by Freud, but no one seems to have any source material stating that, and other people say "no, it wasn't Freud, and it wasn't about what we orginally thought, it was one of his students, etc" so I don't really trust those fans.

As I've mentioned, Rei seems very much like she has AS, Shinji to me seems to be AS-like, possibly, as well. Asuka, probably not, though some people try to lump her into the autistic category as well.

As far as I know, Hideki Anno himself suffered from depression (rumors are that it was due to the death of one of his parents, I believe it was his father, during the Evangelion project- That's why the series takes such a severe turn toward the depressing and mind-trippy midway). He certainly does seem to have an autistic mindset, as well, but it's hard to say, as I've never seen any interviews with him.

Quote:
I'm basing it mostly on his demeanor. He doesn't follow the dictates of fashion, he moved to and lives in France, he likes it there because, he says, he feels safer. He and his family can move about without being disturbed.

I also noticed speech patterns that are very similarto AS.

I adore Johnny and would like to know more about him, but; he is also very reclusive.

I love Johnny as well :D . He certaintly seems like an odd guy, but I took that to be eccentricity, I don't think I ever would have assumed he has AS.

Edward Scissorhands, though, that is a character who is very aspieish :) .

That was the movie that got me into liking Johnny Depp :) .

I love Edward Scissorhands... it's my favorite movie. Edward is so sweet and innocent, too.

It helps that I'm also a big fan of Tim Burton :) .

I seem to remeber mention of Leonardo Da Vinci being posthumously "diagnosed" as being Autistic or AS.

Or was that some bizzare dream......

Da Vinci, Johnny Depp an Tony Benn.

if those are my dreams maybe I shouldn't sleep

I heard or read the same thing about Da Vinci. If you have read anything at all about him and his habits, you would have to agree. During his entire life, he did the exact same thing everyday.

I am reluctant regarding the lists of speculated aspie celebrities and historical figures. Where is the line drawn between a very intelligent introvert who is driven by his interest, and an aspie?

FWIW, if you're into MBTI, the INTP personality type seems very aspie to me, yet when the members of the INTP list took the AQ test, many of them scored well within the normal range, even though they decry the torment of social interactions......

Having said all this, I think Georgia O'Keeffe might have been an aspie. I came to this conclusion after reading a number of biographies, including the one by her friend Anita Pollitzer, and a book in which her letters were pictured, in her handwriting. This is a woman who was extremely reclusive, very idiosyncratic, very smart, and extremely focused and meticulous about details. She had anxiety attacks and breakdowns due to being surrounded houseguests for weeks or months at a time....even when they were people she liked, she dreaded being around them and couldn't handle it. She was also described as "cold", "insensitive" and "mean". But, perhaps she was just an extreme introvert with synesthesia...it's hard to say.

What about Tiny Tim? He had that odd manner of dress, that obsession with obscure 19th century "pop" songs--or whatever you call them, he seemed like an innocent child all his life, had a lot of quirky OCD-like habits and of course that singing voice...
