Ooh, I have got a good one:

One time I was at a fancy dress party at my local pub and some woman there was dressed like a Viking so I naturally ask he "if she was the fat lady?"

For such a large woman her punch was surprisingly lacking in power lol

What I actually meant to ask is if she was a Valkyrie, the largest women in that mythical society became the leader...it is amazing how changing one word can change an entire question isn't it? lol

I have decided to take more care with the things that I say in order to reduce the number of times I do this. I also mean to stop giving myself a hard time about the past instances where I've said really regrettable things.

I know exactly what you mean!

My social studies teacher was talking about how strict she was about iPods in class, but allowed cell phones, as long as people weren't texting. She said another teacher gave her the idea, and told us which teacher it was. I decided to tell her that he changed the rule so said "He actually changed the rule you know, he allows kids to text in class now". I was in his class the last semester and he DID change the rule, but she translated to "I loved to text in his class, can you please let us text?" and responded "OK, whatever, but I am not going to allow you to text in class". When she said "you", she was talking directly to me.

Yes I have experienced this. Luckily because of the way I phrase things I get shocked laughter frequently instead of people being mad. Though this does cause problems at work. It's worst when someone is offended and I don't really understand why and they won't tell me.

Yes!

But with a little practice, more self awareness and some self control, not nearly as often as I used to.

I don't really wish I could take anything back. It's happened, been there done that so I don't see the point in fretting over it. Just live and let learn.

Only thing I had on my mind when I saw this thread was "The thank you card" when I wrote in it to my aunt that they may be cheap but they weren't cheap enough to not get us a wedding gift." She didn't take it too well. I am sure some of you remember that thread. But lesson learned, never mention anything about cost.
