I find a fan helps. I and some people I know can't without one. I cannot sleep with music on my mind will focus on it and even when I manage to fall asleep the music will wake me up throughout the night. Dead quiet doesn't do much better as traffic sounds, dogs, human activity, rain will start to filter in and disturb my sleep. I have fan that also functions as a heater so I can basically always have it on and it drowns other stuff out.

On occasion, like a few days ago I did, but I overcame it.

It's 2:53AM right now. I'll let you decide on that.

I get the feeling that a lot of people are using the word insomnia a little too liberally. Being a night owl and having insomnia aren’t the same thing. Insomnia is when you absolutely cannot fall asleep, even if you’re tired as hell and trying very hard to sleep. How many people claiming to have insomnia could sleep if they got off the computer before 2AM and actually tried to sleep? Probably the majority of them, I think.

I wonder if the issues you have with insomnia are caused by living on the wrong schedule. The reason I say this is because I am a nightperson. I have been since I was a child. Whenever I am forced to work days, I tend to have a very hard time getting to sleep at a decent hour.(case in point, it's 12:30. I'm wide awake. I have to be up at 6:00 for work.)

I didn't sleep at all last night! Not even an hour!
But I'm not tired for some reason...
45 minutes until take off!

it's very hard to fall asleep and i just dread it. finally i sleep and wake up seven times a night for no reason and if there's a slightest sound i'd wake, too. my sleep is terribly light and i'm always tired and many times have blue circles under my eyes. one time i almost lost my balance after a sleepless night. and if i have to wake at seven, i'll probably wake at six or five thirty and might not be able to fall asleep again.
what i wouldn't give for a good night sleep!

I get up in the middle of the night 1-3 times, usually needing to eat to fall back asleep.
I need pills to fall asleep.

I think its mostly from anxiety, not bbeing able to sleep. Also when everyone else is asleep and the world is quiet, is an ideal time for non sensory stimulation.

I think the neurodiverse have always loved night time

It's 06:23 here, and I haven't been to sleep. I've always had issues with getting to sleep and staying a sleep. I've tried staying up 48 hours and more to force myself to sleep at a more appropriate time, I've also given up caffiene! but 7 days later I'm back to jumping in bed at 4-5 am.

I've ordered a weighted blanket, so hopefully that will help.

I don't have insomnia but I do have problems with people waking me such that my usual range of sleep is way below what's "healthy" for me. (7 hours of sleep versus me needing about 9-10)

Yeah its weird sometimes I cannot get enough sleep for about a month, and then I cannot get to sleep for a month or more, I think as of tonight I have returned to the insomnia phase because its 12:30am and I am not in the mood for sleep yet.
