Prozac and Asperger's?
Yeah, I'm on generic Prozac at the moment. It does help somewhat with anxiety; but, oddly enough, the thing that helps most is studying philosophy. Go figure. Do I have a weird brain or what?

I had a stutter when I was a kid and later got Fluoxetine (prozac) for my anxiety and I don't stutter anymore. Only when I need to read a letter out loud or something. I had a period I couldn't even communicate to my therapist and now I act like it is nothing. Other problems with fear I have are just the same and did not help much if at all but the being able to talk now is awesome! I don't get tired of the medication and I have the maximum dosage (80mg). If I don't take it then I turn into a zombie in a few days. Also have less headaches. Only real weird thing is that my memory isn't as good as before. My memory was crazy so that a plus for me. The photographic memory is gone man!
I will never stop with this medication ever. This does not mean you must use it or that I recommend it, just saying that it helped me out a lot.
Just remembered one thing. I play video games and my reaction time is not that good anymore. I don't really care but if you do it can be a problem. I can still grab a coin out of almost everyone's hand without them being able to close before I get it.
I have a High Functioning Autistic DX and a Asperger's Syndrome DX. I have major depression. Probably due to people treating me like Cr@@'. I was on Prozac for a few days and it made me really tired. I stop taking it. I have also been Zofoft and Wellbutrin and had to be taken off of them because I could not sleep very well. Just because a doctor thinks you need to be on Prozac really only means he thinks your really depressed. If you want a Asperger's DX you should go to a different doctor. One who is able to provide the necessary testing that you will need to have done.

It's normal to be tired or sick the first month or so. Your whole body has to adjust to it, especially high doses. I was suicidal and sick as can be and after like 4 weeks it all disappeared like a miracle. The psychiatrist who gave me the medication promised me it would go away and it did.I don't recommend being alone in this period, you really need support.
When my mom started using allergy medication she was sleeping like half the day if not more. She couldn't even watch a movie. 2 weeks later everything was fine and the allergy's where way less then before.
I also used special migrain medication and that also took more then a week to start working.
I know it is hard to go through all that trouble and for me the gamble was worth it but I have also heard a few people who had almost no effect after the period or it even got worse. It's a lucky draw is my opinion.
In my case, I work two jobs and being so tired I can not hardly stay awake past 2pm was not worth it. If I did not have 2 jobs and had people around me who could give me support while adjusting to the meds I would try. As far as the person who started this tread. Go ahead and try the Prozac. It may or may not work. Then push to get your Asperger's DX by your current doctor or get a new one. But in my opinion I do not think he wants you to take Prozac because he thinks you have Asperger's. He thinks your depressed. You can be depressed with or without Asperger's.

i hate prozac... HATE IT!!
and it seems to be the first thing doctors want to try people on.. it did perment damage to me.. i was 8 or 9 when they "tried" it on me. now, 19 years after the fact, i still hate it, and havent allowed anyone to shove that pill in my direction (ive had a few times where they try to make me "try" that med again). and after 19 years, ive been "tried" on EVERY(no exageration) pharmaceutical antidepressant(some of which, arent even on the "market" anymore. ... well.. all the antidepressants up to 2012 where ive been on viibryd since. and it doesnt seem to have any effect on me, unless im trying to get off of it, ive been cold turkeyed off of it made it through 2 days, before i ended up in the hospital because i was out of it, and started convulsing, and other "not pretty" problems. and i was put back on it, and about 4-6 hours things started "going back to normal". ive been cold turkeyed off of a lot of things and the past two years is not my choice when it happens (usually i am very "stubborn" when it comes to any changes of my meds). i dont even know who i am off of the meds completely... i can estimate 5-6 years out of 27 years that ive been completely off of any meds. and when i had been able to stop things coldturkey on my own, it was because my system became immune to it, and it started reactinh just as if it were a placibo pill-... which may be a reason while i keep having occational withdrawls from the ssri, even though im still taking it.(my body has became immune to ambiene, dexa-something(stimulant), cymbalta, trazadone, lexapro, and others).
but anyways... everyone reacts differently to meds, so you may have a better experience, especially since your prolly not about to go through pre teen hormone creating and puberty and your brain would hopefully be past a fragile stage.
