For me, I don't meet new people, new people meet me. They pretty much have to be the first to say something.

I very much dislike new people because the first conversations are always really awkward and I have problems opening them. On the other hand, I do understand that experience may make me better at it, so there is some reason to listen to your parents.

i like the idea but am really bad at it.. i also always reach to a point where i feel like i know enough people.. i always get very close relationships with friends and i am really happy with just a few.

I don't hate meeting new people, but it does make me very anxious, and I'll avoid it if I can.
The place I meet them is very significant. I am much more anxious meeting them in busy crowded places.
I am just as anxious about them meeting me, as me meeting them.

It helps if I have "known of" them through somebody else.

I like meeting new people, but I have a hard time maintaining conversations with them. I think I'm getting better at it, but it's still difficult.
