Oh yeah! Me too! Since my job, these songs sometimes have been replaced by random things I have heard over the last days. Not something bad or good, just something prevalent. I still cannot believe that this is not the normal way to be.

I'm a frequent victim of ear worms. The Glee cover of "Give Up the Funk" has been stuck in my head for days now. I also have noticed I have OCD-ish repetive, disturbing thoughts. I just ignore them or pray for them to go away and they usualy do.

sometimes a song plays itself in my mind and i can't get it out, sometimes a sentence that barely makes sense and isn't related to anything, but mostly there are crazy thoughts and fears that are absolutely ridiculous, like my brother and my nieces getting hit by a car or by crime or just have something else happen to them, like i have this image stuck in my mind that my brother or nieces are upset about something trivial, that someone makes too much noise and keeps them up at night (a neighbor) and the way they react to this is very painful to me to see in my mind. the thoughts play in my head more when i'm around them and more when there's noise and crowds around, especially if the crowd, like on the street, is acting kind of rowdy. i also have those thoughts more during the night and evening and more if i run into an obnoxious person and i think a person like that can run into my family and cause trouble. i get a knot in my stomach from this and can't get the thoughts out of my mind.
glad to know it's an aspie thing, because that means i'm not alone.
and i get scared for them when i see all those cars and buildings around and it's so crowded, so suffocating. that get the thoughts racing...
can't thank you enough for bringing this up

This is most interesting.

As a little kid I listened to that stupid song all day long for several years. Seriously.

 @ Makayla
I feel your pain. The dumbest songs just get stuck there forever!

Everything I hear, read, or do triggers a song getting stuck in my head. I could just be walking down the street and I end up with this soundtrack in my head playing, "I was walking along, minding my business..." It's really annoying at times. I do also get things stuck on repeat in my head, including, but not limited to, songs. It happens with names, random words, or phrases. "I love you" is a common one for me. It can be nice, if I mutter it around the right person, despite the fact that it's not the result of conscious thought. It can be very awkward if I mutter it around other people.

I also get noises stuck in my head, particularly things like car alarms and phones ringing. The noise will echo in my head for a good while after it actually stops.

I'm not really sure if I've commiserated or gone off on my own tangent. I'm in a babbling mood today. Sorry.

Yeah, I knew it was way over the top, this "repetiveness" aspect, but thought it was edetic related( i'm partial in visual)

Same.
" Fascinating" as Spock would say.

On the other side of the coin this all looks like an swbluto campaign now. I can't prove my neurotypicality.

It's especially annoying when I'm trying to sleep at night and it happens.

So much for sleeping tonight, I'm going to be awake thinking "bird, bird, bird, bird is the word."

Sleep well^

This phenomenon of "repetitive" thoughts of songs and images, etc is strange.

I wonder how many in a percentage with AS experience this? This is the one thing that is not related to ADHD that I could find. I don't know this for sure, though. Poke had some noteworthy thoughts on that concept of universal splitting in "cluster b personality disorders( a controversial thread), and by extension this (AS,ADHD). It led me to the idea/possibility that (only) "one" expression can overlap into another, in a blend. If this is AS territory, then this is the only "autistic phenomena" that I experience. I guess in the long run it really doesn't matter which way this works out.

Interesting thoughts, all.

Thanks, M.D.

It was mostly Mario and Pokemon music that would play in my mind non-stop, but now it's nearly always Touhou music! I'm not complaining though!

I get this, too! Not necessarily repetitive music, but eidetic music memories. A situation will happen, and a subject appropriate pop song starts playing in my head. The entire instrumentation, drums bass vocal guitar all at the same time. I can't choose to start or stop it though, it just does it's thing.

Often times my mind will add instrumentation to what's on the stereo, and I'll play a song back listening for that one incredible detail in that one part, and it's totally not there and never was. People always thought I was lying when I described this phenomena to them. So I usually keep these "revelations" to myself now, and then play the new parts on my guitar. I might have "heard" it on the radio, but I guess I really wrote that part myself, right? hehe

It seems impossible for me to have a truly 'quiet' head, so I always have music or the words I'm currently writing or whatever topic running through my head. I can't say the music is exactly reproduced, but it pretty much is.. particularly the catchy part of a song.. I tend to forget exactly how a song progresses, so if I try to reproduce an entire song, I tend to get 'stuck' on a particular part eventually.. but it doesn't really matter since most songs are a few parts repeated a few times anyway :)

And yeah sometimes songs that are somehow lyrically related to my current thoughts will pop in.. For this I find it useful to avoid songs with negative lyrics because then they won't tend to pop in and try to make me feel bad. In fact, I deliberately listen to upbeat music lately.. It definitely helps.

I don't have the 'uncontrollable' aspect, though.. perhaps I can easily tune out my own head.. I also have constant tinnitus in my right ear, although I generally forget I even have it.. and it's not due to hearing loss since I have more sensitive hearing than most.. I've had tinnitus for as long as I can remember

Interesting stuff, I can't imagine not having something in my head, I've tried to meditate and it typically lasts roughly 1.2 seconds, but then most techniques involve repeating a phrase in your head, but even then I can't do it, I get bored :) I also have some idea that if I were to 'truly' meditate, I would simply vanish.

This happens to me; I feel as if I can almost actually hear the music.

Sometimes I can start one on purpose. Sometimes something someone says will remind me of a song lyric and it will start by itself. Sometimes it might not be a song - it might be a line or passage of dialogue from a favourite movie or TV show.
