Definitely - dentists gave me a mouthguard years ago, but I have permanent cracks in my teeth and a cracking noise in my jaw. I clench lots of places in my body, probably due to stress and overstimulation. I should do more with relaxation and massage, since overstimulation probably isn't going away.
I experience this as well.
The issue with clenching and bruxism is very complex and it's etiology can be multi-factorial.
TMJ disorder is a failure of the joint. The muscle contractions are not TMD.
Bruxism can cause TMJ dis. or BE caused by it.
However, when these muscle contractions are occurring elsewhere in the body it is another situation entirely.
Do these contractions cause your body to move? or become rigid?
Doctors often don't know what to make of this phenomenon and I've been trying to understand it for MANY years.
I'd be happy to 'compare notes' if you are so inclined.
