I was never bothered by it. My mother named me after her childhood best friend, (it really is Sibyl), and I'd get a little confused sometimes when I didn't realize that she was talking about the past, and not me, but that wasn't really bothered. I get mildly annoyed when people spell it "Sybil", but plenty do, even my cousins, and I learned years ago that it was going to happen, and not worth the annoyance.

It used to bother me a lot but in the last few years I've somehow gotten over it.
I still have some issues with people calling me by my nickname if I don't know them well (I have a very common name and common nickname) and I don't always know how to answer when I'm introduced to people and they ask if they should call me by my full first name or my nickname which I'm often introduced as (by family and my one friend).
Also I get upset when my mom writes my nickname in place of my full name on forms (she fills out most forms for me and my dad because she had the best hand writing and she insists on doing them do they'll look nice).

It took a very long time for me to not feel embarrassed when hearing my name called and turning around to find out some other person was being called due to how common my first name is.

I have a very common first name but a very uncommon last name so it's an unusual combination that stands out and sounds so disturbing and awkward. Recently I was added to the IMDB system because of college film projects I participated in and it's VERY weird. I don't think I can see myself being well known without feeling weird about it. I did an interview for a newspaper once and I was mortified. Never again.

I have, what was, an unusual first name. I never heard of another person with my name until I was in my late teens. In fact, the first time I heard it was in a supermarket and a woman was almost screaming my name from a few aisles over and I screamed back 'WHAT?" because it never crossed my mind that she might be talking to someone else. Like her own daughter. From then on my name became fairly popular but it does still grate on me. I used to be a special flower - now I'm just another weed... (sarcasm)

Nope. I think it was Dale Carnegie who said that the sweetest sound in any language is a person's own name. Guess I'm guilty of being a bit vain ;)

My name is pretty rare so whenever I see a sign or similar that even closely resembles it I am more inclined to take a picture or claim jokingly that it's one of my businesses I manage in my spare time

The usage of my first name doesn't particularly bother me which is lucky as it's a very common name. I prefer being called by nicknames though.

However I would be annoyed if my full name was used to refer to something other than myself. Luckily my surname is fairly rare. :)

I am incapable of using my own name and that of anyone else that I know. I become extremely embarrassed if I have to tell someone my name or say someone else's name whilst they are in earshot. I can't call them by their name.
Not too bad with strangers, especially over the phone. In fact, I probably use people's names too much to overcompensate in that situation.

I hate my name. "Jessica" is a very common name to begin with. I want to change my name to Kalahari because "Jessica" has too many negative assocations. Even as a little kid, I hated my name but not as much as I do now. People complain that Kalahari is too hard to say. Then they can call me "Kally" like my neice and nepphews do.

I get very annoyed when my name is listed on something like a roster or class list and someone has mispelt it. My first name is common here in Australia, and it's an irish name. But Australian people like to give their children 'creavtive' spelt names, thinking it makes them sound exotic, rather than illiterate. So its really impossible to get anyone's name right these days, and mine always appears with an extra e or a silent h. Le sigh.
