Being called is fine. When I was younger, it was a problem because I would freeze and become stupid. Like if my dad was in the room and someone called and asked if my dad was there, I'd freak and say, "no" and hang up the phone. I couldn't take very good messages either.
My worst problems that continue are calling people for business reasons. I'd much rather email.
Business reasons are anything; making appointments, asking questions, returning phone calls.

I hate 'em. Either I can never understand what people are saying, they hurt my ears, or worse, both together.

If the phone rings, I normally get really pissed off. I'm always doing something, and it's frustrating if I get interrupted. And for the phonecall itself, I'm not the best speaker, so people often can't really hear what I'm saying, and, anyway, phone conversations overall suck.

I don't mind people phoning, and I don't mind phoning people if I know them and their family, but if I don't know a friend's family well then I won't like to phone, as one of their family may pick up and that'd be scary. And also, phoning other people. I was supposed to phone the hospital to get my consultant to write a letter that I needed, and I couldn't - I got so very scared, and in the end Mum did it for me.

I can phone people if I know what will happen (like call the machine I order the refills my meds, or the pizza guy), but I don't like making phone calls otherwise. In elementry school I had a friend whose house I went to several times over the summer and calling him was terrible. I picked up the phone, told myself I would call him after I counted to a certain number, didn't call, again told myself I would call after getting to a certain number...Eventually woud start dialing. Sometimes I would slam the phone down in mid-dial, and usual before I got to the last number. Eventually after a really long time I would finally reach my friend and ask him if I could go over his house.

I'm not this bad anymore (I guess), but I can't just walk over to the phone and make a call to someone, even if my family. I don't like calls to my house either. They are almost never to me, and almost always "junk" calls. I hate the interruption of my work. I hate the sound of the phone ringing. I usually don't answer anymore.

I have a cell phone that I use occassionally but don't mind it because people almost never call me.

I don't have a problem with telephones. Some of my best friends are telephones. Telephones have done some wonderful things for our society.

It's just that, you know, I'm not sure I'd want a family of telephones moving next door to me, and I don't think I'd be too comfortable if my son or daughter brought one home.

I hate talking on them becuase it uses up my time because i can't do anything else. Sure I can talk on my cell phone or use the walk around but it makes it harder for me to do what I'm doing because what happens when I want to make a post. I only have one hand then or I can't understand what the characters are saying on TV because I'm talking. Also it is soemtimes hard to understand what the person is saying on the other end of the line.
I only use my phone to call my family, or work, or my uncle asking about my electric bill. I can also use it to call other places I want like calling the movie theater in town to see what's playing or if I want to order a pizza or call the telephone company if I have a question about my bill. If I wanted a long conversation with someone on the phone, I'd have to put it in my routine. When I want to chat with my mother or my Dad, I just go down to their place since they only live down the road.

I voted a resounding Yes. However, it's not that I have a problem with telephones per se.

It's just that calls from certain callers put the frighteners up me. These callers would include my parents, and my boss (or whoever my boss has happened to be at any one point in time). Or indeed, any number I don't recognise. If a call turns out to be from a close friend, I'm comfortable - indeed very relieved.

I'm actually very interested in telephones - in particular telephone numbering: how area codes interrelate within a country (or city), and how national dialing codes interrelate internationally. For similar reasons I'm also very interested in stuff such as postcodes. I guess I'm very classically Aspie in that respect.

I also really love my mobile phone, mainly for the many many facilities it has other than making and receiving calls. Everything from a calendar, calculator, alarm clock etc., to news, sport and Internet access, and also things like maps, train schedules etc. I tend to be more into texting anyway.

I don't like telephones for the exact same reason--takes up too much of my time. I prefer e-mail and IM myself. I think the most annoying thing about the telephone is getting calls from telemarketers.

Who would be rejected by both of their heritages. No, thanks. I want my grandkids to be sure of their identity.

What's worse is all those telephones sneaking across the border from Telephonia and taking jobs that belong to Americans.

I am getting a little better at using telephones, but I still find it nerve-wracking.

I tend to speak quietly, and stutter or slur my speech slightly. I have to really concentrate and plan what I need to say before I make the call, in order to make any sense at all. I find answering the phone a bit easier.

I have a mobile phone, but I never turn it on. It wears the batteries down. :)

Same here. I only have it turned on when I'm expecting calls.
