I'm not remotely interested in whether I smell good or bad to anyone (other than my immediate family I suppose) but I simply must shower everyday since I cannot tolerate the feel of my skin and hair when it becomes even slightly oily, tacky, sweaty or greasy in any way.

I'm 100% obsessed with personal hygiene, and I can't live the day without my morning shower, and I can't go to bed if I've done any hard physical activity, or in hot weather, unless I take a second shower. And I don't think I smell even then; it's just my sense of perfection on that. There was ONE DAY that I went without a shower; Jan 17, 1994. That was the day of the Northridge Earthquake, and there was no water. I got a motel room the next day a few miles away just for the use of the shower, and carpooled with neighbors there for a couple days 'til the water came back on.

And when my house burned down in 1988, my first concern was getting a clean shirt, a tooth brush, and a place to take a shower. Not even worrying about other stuff was weird, I guess. I refused to get in the ambulance at the scene of the fire because I had black greasy soot on me, and my shirt was gone. The fear of being shirtless and dirty, was worse than most any other aspect of that disaster.

I guess I am one of the rare ones who only shower once every few days, can go over a week without a shower or bath, usually wears the same clothes for days on end, never brushes her teeth, etc.

I guess it is because I do not have much of a routine, so my sense of time is waaaaaaaay off!! !

Hmm, tough to say. I have a hypersensitive sense of smell so stuff like air fresheners or cleaning agents really get to me. Natural smells don't so much though, if you put some time into it, most people smell really different (if your friends are like mine and like to shower once every few days) I shower every other day usually but I order in a special, odourless, body wash that I'd advise for any of those aspies who are not so keen on artificial scents.

I am gratefully not sensitive to smells,

I am just sensitive to touch, sound, and light.

I love burning incense, but I can't stand the smell of people's scented perfumes or shampoos. Cleaning products bother me, too.

I link emotions to scents. It's a kind of synesthesia that only happens for me with scents. Scents will evoke strong emotions in me, for some reason. If I'm close to overload, the smell of something could trigger an emotion that sends me over the top.

I don't like to whower. I don't like to bathe. I dont like to wash my face or brush my teeth. Yet I do, every freaking day that I'm not too depressed to leave the bed to.

You know where I would be perfect living? In the Middle East!

They do not wash all over as often, although they do ablutions. They perfume their hair, which I could imagine myself doing that. Or oiling my hair and body. They are covered most of the time.

I've been there for reasons and wearing that is great! I'd kinda like to wear it here too, but I'm Catholic, not Muslim.

My hygene is not that great, but its not too horrible.....Ideally I try to shower every other day but it does not usually work out that way, other then that I tend to forget to brush my teeth but I remember when they feel like they need to be brushed.

My hygiene is pretty good. Its frustrating as I have hyperhidrosis, which can screw you over and make it seem as if you do NOT have good hygiene. Its quite upsetting as It give my hygiene care 110 percent and my body doesn't cooperate.

Someone at work (a NT.... one of more friendly NTs... :D) bought me socks as a gift.... these socks are awesome as they let my feet breathe and so far as foot odor is no longer a issue for me.... for now.

The real test will come on Tuesday as that when I go back to work since I'm on vacation now. But so far I'm lovin' these socks, my life has just gotten a bit better.

What do you guys think?

Edit#1: After reading these posts and some of u are sensitive to artificial chemicals/smells. There's always organic products without the chemicals or scents which you can get at organic stores these days or online. There a bit more pricer but Im sure its worth it. For me, Im not sensitive to these types of things but I know a few people who are all about organics.

Let's just say, I could survive a long time in the wilderness, easily BUT those around me would eventually run for cover. LoL.

The more i come across these little articles about Steve Jobs, the more I.....

I have a relative who dislikes brushing teeth, and I imagine it may be because of the offsetting feeling of a brush in one's mouth, plus the fact that toothpaste may not taste so great. In addition, this relative sees no point in combing their hair: I wonder if it also has to do with how brushing or combing feels.

It's very possible. You never know the physical or psychological issues a person has to deal with.

I have a very keen sense of smell, and my lungs are easily irritated by chemicals. I can't tolerate anything scented or perfumed, unless it is a very natural smell like lemon or rose scented soap. I only use natural/organic soap and shampoo and eco-friendly cleaning products. I use crystal deodorant, and I only use non-fluoride non-glycerin toothpaste.

I shower and wash my hair at least twice a day, and I wash my hands a lot. My hair and face are very oily and within 12 hours my eyelashes get so oily they smear my glasses. I don't like to feel any dirt, oil or residue on my skin. I don't wear make up and don't especially like to use any kind of lotion but I have to sometimes since my hands get very dry.

I used to be obsessive about cleaning but I gave up since my feline companions have destoyed all possibilities of keeping a clean house. I still obssess over it and it drives me crazy that the house isn't clean but I know my efforts are futile so I don't bother anymore. I can't stand to touch anything that isn't clean, which makes it hard to clean anything.

I can't stand the smell of scented cleaning products either. The smell of a heavily chlorinated indoor swimming pool fills me with dread. Bleach is awful as well. Don't like the smell of the sanitizer stuff they use in public urinals either. And the worst smell in the world is baby powder.

I'm also hyposensitive to smell (and taste).
It's nice to read about another Aspie with this, since many here seem to have a highly-acute sense of smell.

I don't know that I have poor hygiene, but definitely not what most people would consider good.
I shower once or maybe twice a week- I'm quite simply not nearly active enough to warrant any more, and secretly, I don't believe the vast majority of people are, unless they're playing football every day.

I'm militant about brushing my teeth, though, sometimes 5 times a day. Otherwise, I feel yucky.
