In particular, it's the newer dryers that are supposed to be extra-powerful and give quick and efficient drying and be better for the environment, such as the Dyson hand dryers.

For the past year or so I've been seeing a lot more of these, which has thankfully coincided with my recent allergy-induced inner-ear blockage problems. Even with blocked ears though it can sometimes be a bit too much. I especially hate the sound of people sliding their irregularly-shaped hands in them, making sudden louder and quieter bursts as the air buffets into pockets of skin. Youch! On a good day I can mostly tune it out, bus sometimes I can't stand it!

Some public toilets flush SO fiercely that the sound of it scares me half to death. Not the exact same thing as you mentioned, but I do understand.

To this day, whenever I flush an airplane toilet I have to cover my ears and close my eyes. Even then the air-pressure change coupled with the unpredictable timing of the flush itself still scares me. My job has me taking 8 different flights this month... fun times. lol! No in-flight cranberry juice for me!

It's a lot better than when I was a kid though. I used to have nightmares about the sound of loud toilets flushing. I even had accidents in preschool because I was too afraid to go into the school restroom where toilets flushed constantly.

Also, being a drummer I heard about custom ear plugs that block out certain ranges of sound. They're useful for blocking out the sound of drums without silencing everyone around you, but since I haven't tried them I usually resort to flexing something in my inner ear (it might even be in my jaw) that makes it so I can only hear the blood rushing around.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about! I do that all the time! It's hard for me to maintain it for long periods of time though.

I also can hear electricity streaming in chargers, either for mobile phones or laptops, and I cannot sleep because of this. No one believes me though, which is even more frustrating.

Is it a high-pitched whine? I hear that as soon as I plug a charger in.

Yes! It goes like 'zhing' or something and changes speed probably depending on how empty the device is. I think it sounds like someone dropping a small metal chain.

For all those people that wipe their hands on their trousers instead of using a blower; I've joined your ranks. They make a horrible sound, make your hands uncomfortably dry and do not really dry that well anyway...
