Lol, you guys really are aspies, aren't you? Literal as they come.

Oh shush. :P Unless this means I get a magic paper that makes me a "real" aspie too. :P

I heard the local witch doctor has a magical potion for the price of 50 rupees that'll turn you into a real aspie, and it comes with a certificate to prove it. :P

No, seriously, I guess whether you guys took her title "too" literally depends on how she meant it. I got the impression she knew was an aspie all along from her blog post (I seriously doubt she believed her diagnosis suddenly caused her to neurologically change into an aspie), so that tells me her use of the word "real" wasn't something to be taken literally; more like, she meant something like something that certifies her aspie-ness. Kind of like how you can get a certificate to prove a stone is a diamond, even though the diamond was a diamond all along.

I wont congratulate you since I know you being autistic probably means your life has been that much harder then it should be and will continue to be difficult, and at some point you're probably going to struggle with depression like every other autistic seems too - if you haven't already

Sorry to be the downer, I'm that guy today.

She seems to fundamentally upbeat (Genetics determine at least 50% of happiness), so it's possible that might never happen. There are some people who are happy no matter how difficult their lives are as proven by the many smiling Africans in Ethiopia. :)

Just as long as it doesn't become "severely" difficult, I think many aspies can maintain satisfaction with their lives.

I feel I should clarify a few things.
No, I don’t believe that I’ve magically developed Asperger’s just because a piece of paper told me so – since I was 14 I’ve vaguely suspected that I’ve had traces of Asperger’s, and became more sure of it around a year ago. Still, it felt that since I didn’t have an official diagnosis, it wasn’t right for me to claim to be an Aspie, if only myself and my close family and friends thought it to be true. Having a diagnosis helps me feel that my belief that I’m Aspie is now ‘valid’ – maybe I should have used that word rather than ‘real’.
And yes, I’ve had depression spells for a long time – a report when I was 10 notes that I seem very sad – and I was officially diagnosed with moderate depression when I was 19. I generally feel happy most of the time and just have the odd depression-spell, I’ve gone a few months without spells though, so I’m optimistic.
Also, yes I do feel that my life has been harder than it perhaps should be because of Asperger’s, and will continue to be difficult – but it’s nice to be able to tell people that there’s a reason for my difficulties, especially now that it’s been confirmed and is ‘official’ through diagnosis.

And thanks for reading!

Congrats, Cathleigh! :) These are the very reasons why I'm currently going through an evaluation, besides I'd like to get some help too, if possible. Fortunately, it seems I'm of the optimistic type, I've never suffered from depression, only anxiety.
