I usually hold my tongue around here, but- Oh! -this is simply too cute!

It is always tempting to believe that we're not really defective, that we're actually entirely healthy and that all of our problems are the result of 'oppression', 'isolation', 'subordination', 'marginalization', 'segregation', and that tired hyperbole, 'genocide'. It's a comforting idea; all of the blame goes elsewhere and we can claim the 'moral high ground' regardless of our worth. If we cannot ignore our own failures, we can always retreat to that old saw, 'my disability', 'my race', 'my culture', 'my excuse'. The fact that people with identical or even more severe problems perform quite well is simply irrelevant, no?

If we left all the NT's behind,who will I get to feel superior to?(joking)....I have seen examples of people trying to create an isolated Utopian society...Does the name David Keresh ring a bell...seems like they usually end badly(....."I dont know,Bob,this kool-aid tastes a little funny to me"...)I have had a few fantasies of living on a commune but the history of the ones in the 60's sound anything but pleasant.....the only ,semi-productive ones have been a few Kibbutz(sp?)in Israel....but,believe me,your struggles would be far from over....it is a lot of hard work and groups that have separated in the past have ended up with one individual being a fascist dictator coming up with some really loony ideas,rules,etc.....and just for the record...."I dont have balls"

It isn't a commune it's an activist organization working to create an official government and economy on an aspie island. I mean the rest of the world is predominantly NT, can't we have atleast one place where we can live as 1st class human beings? A place to call our own?
Also think about it, we'll earn the world's respect if we succeed and we'll turn lives around for aspies all over the world, and make integration possible. But we have to earn the NT world's respect and understanding before we can truely integrate. For one we have to proove we're not disabled. Maybe lower functioning autistics are, but there are severely mentally handi-capped NTs, some of whom are also pretty intelligent. Really it's the disabilities and us (since we're labled as a disability) who are silently discriminated.

Yeah people with AS are rare enough that most AS people do not know another person
with AS. I think the romantic notion that AS people could get along better with other
AS people is BS! My theory is quite the opposite maybe true. We do better mixing with
as many NTs as possible. Thats kinda how evolution has decided to do it. If your going
to second guess evolution then what is the moral case against genetic selection (aborting AS babies)?

The things people come up with these days... However, I like the idea of the island as more of a place where we can gather and hang out and help eachother and stuff. Kinda like that corner in the room or that tree next to the park bench. You'd go there with little fear of invaders and just hang out and be yourself. Parents and stuff would be able to visit and say 'Hi' (so long as they didn't do anything bad to you), as should all other NT's that we felt were important in out lives. I'd so invite Jeremy, Luke, Leo and Alex over for a bon-fire night!

Hmm... maybe in the future when we've got Space Travel we should all save up our money buy the moon!

What is it with the whole 'All NTs are evil, kill ze aspie-hating scum' attitude? I mean, I'm feeling pretty offended by this. I really hate other NTs who decide that autistics are inferior. They piss me off. So am I still just an NT? Whose talking about bigotry?
For christ's sakes, it's NOT an 'Us and Them' situation. Most NTs have no idea what an aspie is, actaully, and if you're deciding to be an extremist about it then you're acting on incorrect information. You can't divide the word into good-bad, black and white. A soley aspie world probably wouldn't work, I'm sad to say, as in the end we're all human beings and so have the potential to be mean, narrow-minded, cruel and indifferent no matter who we are.
Oh yes, this is going to sound dead petty and mean but aspie island = impractical + impossibly expensive + probably illegal in some way. Sorry.

One of the problems you mentioned would probably be unlikely, the aspie hitler, or the aspie david koresh. You have to be charismatic to become a dictator, and aspergers is the opposite of charisma.


Leaving snake's conclusions aside, I can understand his rage. Not saying it's good for him, but I understand. Some among us have been treated very badly.

I'm wondering, as Bluesky has mentioned, if it might be possible to approach this from the opposite direction; start by forming an aspie economy. How many skilled and talented aspies who love to work are unemployed or working at things unrelated to their talents? Money carries far more power than geography. Maybe we could help each other, along with our neurotypical allies - there are some - and make our own lives better.

Number 1, I never said I was trying to become an "aspie Hitler". Stop putting wotds in my mouth. Number 2, once again, I'm not attacking all NTs, just the ones who've built this wall of segregation around anyone who they claim has a disability. That's the greater majority of society. Even "advocacy" programs will treat a grown adult like a perpetual 5 yr old. This is painfully obvious.

I'm in, if this is really seriously meant and has the slightest posibility to become reality.

As for the others on the post I did here, remember there were some black slaves who fought to defend their slavery because they were always taught that's how they were meant to be. Whenever oppression sets in, it's the few who have the courage to stand and fight, it's often the many who stick their tail between their legs and coward away.

And you know something, autism just might BE the next stage of evolution. That doesn't mean we're any better than NTs. It seems to me your only focusing on the negative aspects of evolution as to the potential of the future of humanity. The ladder s**t, the dominance s**t, all this divide and conquor s**t. This s**t isn't doing anything but holding us (the human race) back, the only reason people defend it is because they are too weak to break down the walls of bias and ignorance. This even goes on in aspies too.
Yeah, that s**t might have been alittle more acceptible or important when we were living in caves. But we have the capability to make this design unneccary now, so why don't we? Oh, because life wouldn't be entertaining if we weren't at constant war and fighting amoung one another (sarcasm). Damn I certainly would hate to see people evolve in a positive way

I wanted to make it plain that I wasn't saying that you were trying to be an aspie hitler. I was saying that an aspie hitler was impossible because aspies, by definition, are not charismatic.

History records countless cases of people who have been wronged uniting or attempting to unite. The results and the people involved vary greatly, so I don't think sweeping generalizations have much value.

One thing comes to mind. nobody could do a thing to help alcoholics before AA, because nobody else but them could really understand what it was about, and what needed to be done. I can't help but wonder what would happen if aspies decided to help each other with something besides therapy.
