I've always talked to myself. When I was a kid all the people in my class at school used to comment on the fact that I talked to myself all the time, and at work nowadays I often get through a boring day by having a chat to myself. People see me talk to myself but as most of them are Polish they don't have much of a clue as to what I'm saying exactly. As for the rest of them, I often get to the point where I don't much care what they think of it. I just usually spurt out any old nonsense really, but it's all good fun....

I talk to myself a lot. Also I talk to other people when they're not there. I mean when there's something I want to tell someone but I don't dare to actually tell them that I just imagine a conversation with them and say it all. Or when there's something I need to get off my chest I imagine I'm talking to someone I would feel comfortable with. Or I write letters I never send.

I tend to daydream when I'm not around others then realize after a bit that I'm moving my hands around and kinda moving my mouth to the words in my daydream. I then feel really silly and try to decide if I was actually saying anything where anyone could hear me in the next room. :chin:

Yes... Not out loud though. I've always done that. I think that might be one reason I was misdiagnosed with paranoid-schizophrenia at age 9, which is not possible anyway, but it was wrong nevertheless. I "discuss things with myself" sometimes, as it helps me to decide what I want to do about a particular situation. Maybe similarly to how someone will sit down and draw an outline and a table with pros & cons for a proposition they're considering.

My Grandma and my Aunt both talked to themselves out loud when they didn't know anyone was listening... And they were both "normal" NT educated sane working people. Family trait maybe?

Never had that problem.. always have had a large amount of furkids in the home, so talking to myself is really talking to them, as they are always where I am (following me around like little shadows).

I do sometimes, but only when I'm alone as someone talking to themselves in public is generally viewed as being severely mentally ill. I think many people talk to themselves, but because of the stigma against it, most are afraid to admit it.

Sure, I do (it's not like I have anyone else to talk to most of the time).
I read a theory once that talking out loud to oneself (or to others) helps the right and left sides of your brain communicate better. The two brain hemispheres are connected by the corpus collosum, and this is how the 2 sides communicate generally. One side of the brain may be better at some things, and the other at others, so talking out loud may help the brain to better integrate its thoughts (I forget the details, so am not putting them here).

I never talk to myself out loud. I talk to myself quietly in my mind though and sometimes I move my lips along without making a sound.

I do this, and I also tell myself stories (I think them and act the dialogues out loud).

Exactly.

I talk to myself. Guess, it is from being lonely to much. I read this article from latest brain research in the Netherlands saying, that the brains always need a kind of "interaction". That's how they explain for example shizophrenia, if there is not enough stimulus from the outside you develop hallucinations and voices. They also stated, that the religious prophets showed signs of shizophrenia, because before they got their visions they were in solitude for a long time. Interesting theory in a way, but it is not proofed enough and I am not sure whether it can be right or not. And if so, what would it mean?
I talk to myself and to my cats and we really learn each others language. They follow "commands" on a natural way which is amazing. I don't "command" them but talk to them and they know like 20 "commands", but not in a forcing way. I am just taking to them.
