OK, I'm not going to lie. I think females may be better at opening up to their feelings and opinions better than males on the spectrum. In fact, on a lot of NT forums, I find there are more female members than there are male members.

I wanted to add one more, more self-diagnosed aspie females then males. I suspect that women are more likely then men to be seeking "what is wrong with them". So they're more likely to read about disorders, disabilities. So they find aspergers, there there socially awkward and are like "I have aspergers". Whether they really have it, is in question.

Interesting article. Years ago, I got clued in to how the healthcare system doesn't take women seriously in general by reading stuff like The Mismeasure of Woman, by Carlo Tavris. It's been a longstanding problem, and the Asperger's aspect is just a part of it.

I got clued into it when my every health complaint was turned into an anxiety disorder.

Also, reading about it like you did.

I mean, yes, I do have anxiety issues, but most of those complaints that I was told were just anxiety got defined as "fibromyalgia" this past summer. Those issues caused anxiety because I didn't know what they were, but weren't caused by anxiety. :(

I think females that have aspergrs feel socially isolated and will do anything they can to feel like they fit in some way.
I am female that has been diagnosed with aspergers and feel this way. In public it is less obvious that we have asperger than males because we appear to be shy and socially awkward like many other girls. I think it is also much harder for us to make friends than it is for males because women have so many more social expectations. We are judged for our appearance and the way we dress. Making friends with other women is hard because most of them are judgmental and they gossip.
It is easy for me personally to express my emotions in the written word and in an on line forum. I rarely use on line forums because of on line social anxiety.
In real life It is hard for me to express my emotions because of body language, facial expressions and eye contact. It is like a foreign language to me.
