Seriously, how do you care enough to do anything? Isn't that the point of depression? If I could do stuff, I wouldn't be depressed.

Exactly. And wasting away in the internet is not too helpful either now is it.

That seems like the problem for me a lot of days... I have a hard time finding anything interesting... If I start a book I might read the first chapter and then quit... I think I'm just really lonely and bored and jaded with everything lately.

I can go on arguing over politics or economics on the internet but I just get pissed off and depressed over that.

Apparently that is not the only thing it can affect the smell of...

Although if it does make pee smell I have never noticed it. However I do admit to not having actually checked lol.

I doodle.
If I don't have a pencil I plan what I will doodle next.

It used to get me in trouble when I was bored in school and would begin drawing in my notes, but I discovered that if I made image representations of whatever the teacher was talking about then they'd not only let me draw, but they'd give me extra credit! By college I had figured out that drawing whatever the teacher was talking about (even if it was boring) not only made my notes way better, but it somehow embedded it in my memory more permanently. I took an ornithology course and the teacher was talking about parts of the body of a bird for about 10 minutes while pointing to a mounted skeleton. During that time I made this sketch. After the short lecture was up he dumped out boxes of unmarked bird bones on the table and told us that we had five minutes to reassemble our birds. Even though I was one of the only undergraduates in the course I was the only one who finished mine, and did so in 60 seconds.

Listening to or playing music, listening to some good comedy, browsing online, holding my pet ratties, lots of things. I usually keep myself busy just for that reason, fighting boredom / depression.

Think at positive things/think at nothing
Just observe, don't try to change anything
Listen to a good music that makes you feel happy
Avoid people that make you feel uncomfortable
Clean your house, change your lingeries and your clothes (smell good)
Buy an animal, play & talk with it
Watch a comedy movie
Try to have your mind occupied with something entertaining

And most of all, RELAX.

It works for sure :thumright:

I agree. Learning things can be a very effective way of fighting boredom and depression. At the end of it you have more confidence in yourself, which in turn helps to fight the next bout of boredom and depression.

Among other things, I now do more regular 'checks' of/on myself to make sure I'm not investing efforts towards fulfilling someone else's (ill-conceived) expectations of me. Nothing like trying to make myself fit someone else's 'picture' turns me 'off' (a version/manifestation of boredom/depression, yes?) faster.
