When I'm by myself, I literally get out my drumsticks and drum on cardboard boxes, my school bag, plastic bags, and heavy books. It sounds very nice. Tapping things is just an alternative.

Constantly, practically everything within reach and where possible with both hands.
Most times for the rhythms but other times because of the interesting noise.

I tap a bit too much sometimes. I easily get carried away.

Sometimes I do tap things as part of checking to make sure things are where they are supposed to be. I think it could be as a result of OCD, but it could also be because of the rituals of my Asperger's.

I tap all the time. I have different taps for different situations. when I'm concentrating I tap my right leg incessantly. When I'm listening to music (anything with a guitar) I will play the notes out on my left (fretting) hand as if I'm playing gituar. I've found myself doing this one more and more in public as I tend to go through songs in my mind in stressful situations and this is the by-product of it. I've always done it but have only recently (the past 6 months) become aware of how much I do it. I know it winds my wife up something rotten :)

Only when I open a new pack of cigarettes... I tap the pack either 3 or 5 times, exactly, every time. Even if I'm distracted and realize I've only tapped 2 or 4 times, I have to add one more tap "to make it right".

I tap things, usually flat surfaces.

Yes. I do this all the time off and on. My laptop, game controllers, steering wheel, anything my hands are on.

To a song that has a lot of percussion or something. Otherwise, only when I'm bored or annoyed. Never been one of my stims.

Sincerely,
Matthew

Yeah, I tap things a lot. I try not to in public, but when there's no one around I do it all the time.

I tap this all the time!! ! Usually it's my fingers, my feet (mainly for band & trombone lessons), my teeth, and anything I can get my hands on. Pencils are my favorite to tap with!! :D
