Many people, especially my teachers, have told me that I write very well. And I can't carry a conversation in a proverbial basket. I used to use cliches all the time, but now I avoid them like the plague.

When I can be bothered, yes. At school I got Ds and Cs on my practice papers because I couldn't motivate myself to do them properly, but in the actual English exam I got A*A*.

I think I'm a pretty good writer.

I can usually get my point across when I write, which is all that's important to me.

Not good or bad.

I like my stories, but I don't know about them being objectively good, no. A professional writer probably writes better than me.

I'm 17 and on an english lit/lang course(amongst other things) if you asked me what I think of my work I'd say it's utterly terrible but I am a fairly good writer. Even If I'm a tad self concious about my work.

Good for you! :D That's the first step.

And with critics, I think the thing is to take what they say with a grain of salt but not uber serious.

And the think the general public is often far more forgiving than the 'critics.'

Better at writing than speaking, and make my living in written-word-related fields.

Sometimes. My real "talent" though, is a seemingly allergic reaction to bad writing; it's something I do intuitively and often can't explain. I'm just now starting to realize the specific triggers for me, mostly having to do with hyperbole, jargon, obvious bias and other manipulation techniques. I also trigger on more general writing sins like repetitious word usage or overwrought language, but it's attempts to sculpt the reader's opinion that really jump off the page at me.

My son is on the sprectrum and a good writer. However, he has minimal conservation skills and often when he attempts to have conversation, it appears quite awkward.

He has written a script for an animated feature and apparently (based on my friend's reading, and he is a script editor) it is not bad and potentially could be a feature film. So there is hope for everyone. It's just channeling the talent in the direction you want to go. That could be writing job applications, creating resumes for money or any sort of thing.

I feel that I have excellent writing skills, but I hope to stop short of putting myself in a position to be called a braggart by saying so. In fact, I might say that I hate telephone calls and face-to-face discussions. Therefore, I prefer to write in most any situation requiring accurate communications.

Others say that I am a very good poet. Personally, I'd say fair (especially since I had writer's bloc for over a decade! ) now that I've started again. I cannot write a novel to save my soul though (there's another cliche' for you collectors.LOL). Just cannot make decent fictional characters.
I do better writing online than speaking face to face also. I find it much easier to express myself by written word. That feels like my natural enviroment.

I'm also considering an autobiography, since I have done some interesting things with my life & I think others like me could see that you can overcome some of our challenges.

Sincerely,
Matthew
