My grandfather beat my father who spanked me severely, so no, I think I'm better off. At least I know about Asperger's.

An high functioning aspie in an intellectual upper class environment about 50-250 years ago would perhaps have it easier. For the rest of us - no.

I never thought I'd say this, but MrMark and Litigious are equally out to lunch.

MrMark - The abuses you described were commonplace and it's definitely good they are no longer considered acceptable. The solution we have arrived at is no better than the original problem. At least back then kids had fathers and males were permitted to be fathers.

Since you're filled with a warm glow about the status quo, you obviously have not suffered the nightmare of being a heterosexual aspie male at the merciless mercy of a feminist ruled court/mental health system. Try telling them you're not really such a bad guy and see if they believe you. Try telling them you love your kids and your kids love you and that matters and see if the feminists and their stooges could possibly care.

The people who are now in power want what's best for your kids. If you don't believe it, just ask them.

Litigious - In the graduate school I attended, I achieved the distinction of being the only student ever to be thrown out twice. It has always been my impression that being admired as a clever intellectual has far more to do with presentation skills than knowledge and clarity of thought. I don't think this aspect of human nature has changed.

The dead thinkers from previous centuries who are now remembered only by what they wrote often lived lives very similar to modern aspies.

Years ago I worked for sikorsky helicopter. For several weeks, I spent the entire workday putting two strips of tape over each rivet head on the inside of the fuel cell. The other jobs I did there weren't much more stimulating. I think village blacksmith would be a more interesting job, and making weapons for the upcoming mammoth hunt would be better still.

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?
You were quiet, just like mice. And now you say that we're not nice.
Well thank you buddy for your advice...

I think today's world is harder to fit into. NewTs are fetishistically materialist. They ooh and ahhh over their stupid wide plasma/LCD/HighDef TV.

I would like to go back to the 1890's and be in a sideswhow. Maybe as a wildman, or magician, or early electrical genius. (Tesla did a stage show!) I'd live with other eccentrics, travel a lot, have very little health care, but very little government also. Maybe marry the snake handling girl. Life would be sooooo much less stressful, except of course for the beatings given by 'towners'.
