I make up words freely, by adding prefixes and suffixes, and I also reclaim old or unusual words because I like their nuances in connotation or preciseness. And I come up with titles for concepts, categories of people, tendencies . . . basically any time the words I know offhand fail me I come up with one. I figure the English language is meant to evolve, so if I can make my meaning clearer at the expense of sounding slightly quirkier I just go for it.

My vocabulary is pretty good anyways because I read alot of classic novels and write though, which means I can practice using different words in their correct context. The result is that people laugh at the way I talk and stuff, but I like the way I write. And if someone or an author talks in a particularly lovely way I'm really sensitive to it and admire them greatly for it.

Umm, I also use unconventional punctuation and my favourite internet slang. Structurally, I often write things in experimental prose, or in a weird format to suit the circumstances. e.g, as a list, or with headings. Plus to complicate things further I'm really into graphic novels/ the relationship between drawings and text (the unifying feature is semiotics, which allows you to think of the drawings themselves as a text), so when I have the chance I play around with the graphic representation of text and textual treatment of illustration too.

I guess all this isn't very normal, now that I think of it.

Yes, and it isn't just a "different way of saying" a word or anything like, they are words that no one else but some of the people I know use.

They are related to my special interests, (which is a band and a musician right now). I typically take the name of the one of the band members and use it for a word that applies to them. (If that makes any sense). For example, one of the guys in the band I like is named "Bob" and he gets sick a lot, so when someone is sick, I saw they are "Bob". I have others one to, like I say that people are "Sean" when they are grumpy because one of the guys in the bands name is "Sean" and he is often grumpy.

Sort of, I invent words and use them. "Telenopsisticalifornical, Meemtonson, Mingtomnoog, Mewmipie, Pingatonoogus." To name a few.

About the only words I've made up is "metric fucktonne", which describes a large volume or weight. Other than that, no, I don't do it.

I'm not sure it's related. All I can say is that you have a hidden talent in fiction writing. ^_^ I myself loves to create words. I even created my own language twice for a story I was writing (that is still in hiatus), it's fun and a good brain exercise because you have to research 'language' and challenge your brain.

I make up words. Not entire languages, just words. And each of my dogs has several names/nicknames that I call them, specific to each dog, some of them are actual words, and some of them are my own gibberish...and they all respond ! they have all their names memorized, LOL

for example, my schnauzer's name is Camille. And she's my neemer. She is unique, so I labelled her something unique, and there will only ever be one neemer. she is it. I love her to bits, she's the dog of a lifetime. ♥

there are some words I've used since I was a kid, and some that kind of evolve, I start out with a thought, and the word evolves until it just sticks. Then I use it. Only my husband knows what I'm talking about, although I am aware enough not to talk my words to random strangers. It's sort of an "in" thing-- in our house only. I have to smile when I hear my husband use one of my words.... that's so cute.
