If it's just MY money, I'm great with it... I keep charts and balance everything to the penny. But ever since I've been with my current boyfriend, who tends to "spend now, worry later", I haven't been ANY good... It's frustrating and stressful. :(

I've never had any money in my life. Once I get some money I'll know how good I am with it.

I'm terrible with money. I love buying new and expensive things :)

It is too stressful to be in debt, though, so I'm trying to work on getting better at it. I just don't have the discipline to keep up with all of it.

Racist stereotypes are offensive, hurtful, and based on ignorance.Surely you are intelligent enough to know this.

And surely you are intelligent enough to know that stereotypes are shortcuts that exist to provide information where it cannot otherwise be obtained and generally prove true or else they wouldn't exist in the first place.

Question:

You happen to get stuck travelling on foot late at night to a destination you've never been before in a sketchy part of an unfamiliar city. Suddenly, you notice someone is behind you and gaining. You look to see what's going on.

Now, what would you do if you saw that the person behind you was a 6' 3" 225 pound young black man decked out like a rapper? Would it be any different than if you turned to see a 5' 7" 145 pound middle-aged white guy in a tweed jacket and wearing glasses? If you wouldn't behave the same way in either case, you're being a hypocrite.

Guess it depends HOW the stereotype is used, in which neither party is wrong, but both are either extremes of the spectrum.

so you are basically saying you are racist, then?

I would perceive both individuals as possible threats because I know that males are statistically more likely to do harm to people.I would be less afraid of the guy who was smaller because I would have a better chance of defending myself. If I just wanted to base my decision on my own life experience...I had one male who was african break into my house and try to rape me and was once robbed at work by a guy who was african american.I was robbed at gun point by three african american teens. However, many of the people I work with are African and african american and I am not afraid of any of them.

The reason I objected to the "stereotype" is that I know Jewish people and I know this hurts their feelings.I dont know any of them who are any cheaper then anyone else I know.I am "cheap" in many ways and I am not Jewish.I would have said the same thing if someone had said something equally ignorant about any other "group" of people, including "aspies".Not confronting racism is no better then condoning it.If you think I am being hoilier then thou, thats your issue,I am simply being true to my beliefs and you are obviously being true to your.Which doesnt suprise me....I have heard a lot of "stereotypes "about attractive people like you being superficial thinkers if not outright dumb(because they can rely on their looks rather then their brains to get by in life)And of course being from "the south"....why your all a bunch of racist hillbillys ,anyway. Why dont you go have sex with your sister.

How is it useful information to assume that Jews are cheap?Where did the stereotype come from?I assume brought to use by the same proponents of racial purity that would have marched our aspie asses onto the cattle cars.

Are you saying you're not? Give me a break. Just because you don't beat up minorities or tell jokes about ethnic groups doesn't mean you don't experience prejudice just like every other human. Unacceptable behavior is what it is but crusading against sometimes justifiable presuppositions on the part of people who have no other way of making decisions is ridiculous.

Hey, did that last part sound familiar?

It's just an expression. It came about because, faced by social and political persecution that often impeded success in most other trades and living within societies that forbade "usury" to the majority of its constituents by penalty of eternal damnation, moneylending was a fairly frequent occupation adopted by Jews.

Please note who steered clear of the ad hominem.

Hey, here's another stereotypical expression: "Works like a Mexican."

Lots of middle-aged white men working in blue-collar fields use it as praise of non-Mexicans. The experience of these men tells them that they're better off hiring someone recently emigrated from Mexico than your standard white high-school graduate because the latter is typically lazier and less motivated. Sometimes they get surprised and use the phrase above. Should we put them in the stocks for "racial insensitivity?"

Well, of course you are not afraid of the people you know because you have experience with them that causes you not to be. My scenario dealt with strangers, people about whom you must make judgements and develop decisions by working from the universal to the particular - that is to say by relying on stereotypes. I'll take your non-answer as proof of the point I was making with my question.

You can "take it " anyway you want.I am not going to debate the issue with someone who I believe does not have the intellectual capacity to understand the points I am making. You have made up your mind on this issue and my words will not dissuade you.I have made up my mind on this issue and your words will not dissuade me.Debate,at this juncture, would be pointless.
