I often chew my lower lip.

I also have another weird tic: I suck my tongue against the roof of my mouth. I don't know how else to "park" it. I can't just leave it laying around in my mouth like a dead snail, that feels just too weird. If I try that, I somehow have this strange air pocket between my palate and my tongue that makes me feel like I'm about to throw up. So I create suction between my tongue and my palate, which causes the tongue to stick there and removes most of the air from my mouth.

I know this sounds weird, but I can't describe it any better. The problem is, this causes increased salivating which only gets worse when I'm nervous, and I often make involuntary smacking noises. This has caused all kinds of uncomfortable situations and misunderstandings in the past, but I can't help it :?

I grind my teeth not only while I'm asleep but also when I'm in stressful social situations. I also bite my lips, and chew on the inside of my cheeks, though unlike the teeth grinding I find these things relaxing. I've been doing all three since I was a child.

Yep, I do lots of weird things like that. I don't see the big deal TBH. NTs do the same sort of thing in slightly different ways.

I do both. I always have, but methylphenidate (without accompanying TCA), Adderall (but not Dexedrine), and Wellbutrin make me do it a LOT worse.

Once, I accidentally bit my lower lip so hard, I severed the salivary duct & gave myself a mucocele. Ouch. I still remember the bite, but not the reason. I just remember that something made me bite down really hard by accident, and the blinding pain afterward made me realize that this wasn't just an ordinary accidental bite, and that something really bad had just happened that never happened before.

I tend to bite my lip (gently) in situations when I feel like I'm not really sure WHAT kind of facial expression I'm supposed to have. I'll kind of curl my lower lip over my lower teeth (like an old woman without teeth), and gently bite down (making contact, but not applying actual pressure). My "stress" bites tend to involve the left or right side of my lower lip, and are completely different from my "I'm mystified" bites.

Are you sure that's not where everyone puts their tongue? I'm confused now.

Used to. Not sure how I stopped. I seem to flick my tongue over my teeth now, especially my front teeth.

I used to bite the inside of my cheeks all the time. I still do, but to a significantly lesser extent.

I used to chew the insides of my cheeks all the time, I eventually stopped. I also bit my lower lip, and still do so when it is dry, to an extreme extent. I peel the skin off in strips until my entire lip is smooth and raw. It looks awful when I do it.

On the bright side, I've stopped biting my nails! Now, if only I could stop biting the skin around my nails too...

congrats! i dont think i will ever be able to stop either, so i dont stress about it. my fingers arent as bad as pictures i have seen on the internet. i havent used nail clippers since i cant remember when, and i usually have at least one finger with a scab in the process of healing, on bad weeks several. thumbs are the most common victim of my dermatophagia.

i have the lip biting issue less often, but when the process gets going it can be month long ordeal before they are back to normal. it doesnt help that i have big lips.

I do it all the time. Lips and the insides of my cheeks. Sometimes I do it so much I make them bleed.

I do this frequently.

It is one of those very few habits that I am only semi-aware of. I do it when I'm trying to concentrate, for example when I'm trying to focus on an activity such as replying on here or when I'm listening to someone talking. From that, I assume it's a form of self-stimulation that ties in with both my ADHD and ASD because of how stimulation improves my ability to focus.

I have no idea :? It could be that this is completely normal.

I do this constantly. I like the peeling feeling that comes with it as well as the sound of it. It's a part of my dermatillomanic tendencies, just that it's less obvious than the constant picking around my little fingers.

I also put my finger in my mouth and scrape the inside of it with my nail, then look at the string of soggy skin that comes off, sometimes placing it out on the tip of my finger and rubbing my lip against it before chewing and eating it.

I did this all the time as a child, and still do. I'd chew my lip and the inside of my cheeks (until they were raw and sore), but now I just bite my lip. This increases with stress, although I find myself doing it other times, like when I'm deep in thought, or intensely focused on something.
