Yeah some ppl make way too much noise when the are eating. Usually they are just loud ppl in general. I guy i used to knew made allot of noise eating and i hated it with a passion and wanted to kill him. Other than that he was a allright person.
I didn't realize it slup coffee until someone got annoyed about it at work and i overheard their comment. :)

re: the 'loud people in general'
That's something that gets on my nerves even worse than noisy eating... I HATE hearing people breathe heavily. I loathe it when people walk heavily, like, slamming their heel down.. to the point where you can hear them thumping their way up the sidewalk, in sneakers.
If I could afford it, I'd get a silent keyboard.. even the sound of my own typing is distracting and irritating.
Cellophane/mylar drives me bonkers.
Strangely enough, bubblewrap doesn't.
I was considering watercooling my computer but I've found I like the white noise of the 7 fans I've got shoehorned in there.

Tho, oddly, the cats' eating noises don't bother me.

Speaking of that, I'm also very annoyed by my cats licking themselves (as in the cat version of taking a bath) or when dogs lick themselves. I swear that I love animals more than anything else, but the sound of licking has actually caused me to hit an animal on occasion, hard. Which then of course leads to me crying for hours because I love animals so much and didn't mean to do it.

I think of my annoyance as being with "mouth noises" and not necessarily "eating noises."

People’s eating sounds bug me a lot. Which is why I can’t stand eating at the table, and only do so when I absolutely can’t get out of it. Also I have to levee the room when certain people eat because their so loud.

Oh yeah and that throat clearing thing annoys the heck out of me. My dads doing it right now! He doses it like a million times in a row! I don’t know why he has to do it so much.

Oh yes, throat clearing...drives me nuts. I think it's a habit people get into without knowing they do it. I worked with a woman who used to do it all the time when she was stressed. The worst part was waiting for the next one to happen.

Agh, I know what you mean.

I used to work opposite a woman who took a salad into work with her every day, and always ate it at her desk. I had to time my lunch break so I could take it at exactly the same time as her, so I could get out of the office and not have to sit and listen to the horrible crunching and slurping sounds. Even thinking about it makes me uncomfortable. :?

And for years, my mum used to complain when I'd tell my dad to eat with less noise. She'd tell me to 'just ignore it' - eventually I figured out that it simply didn't bother her, therefore she didn't understand how much it bothered me - before that I thought she was just being intentionally annoying. I finally figured out how to explain it to her, and told her that it would be the equivalent of me telling her to 'just ignore' a person repeatedly prodding her with a knitting needle.

 Same here man. 8)

But in general, I don't mind people chewing with their mouth closed, but with their mouth open, god the noise wants to make me to hit them.

i enjoy hearing my cat or dog eating for some strange reason. it doesn't bother me one bit...but when they start licking themselves, i can't stand to hear that noise. my dog's the worst, he sounds like a pig and a horse mixed together.

This is something I've always found strange in myself, and that I noticed one day in school:

It was a little after halloween and we were at our desks doing some kind of quiet work... reading or a test, I can't remember... Either way, I stopped doing what I was doing, and just sort of sat there, completely dazed... there was a noise: someone was very quietly eating chips in a very quiet classroom.

It was putting me in a trance... I couldn't read, my mind went completely blank... even my breathing felt shallow! It's like I didn't want to disturb the quiet little noise... just wanted to listen and stare into space... :?

Anyway, skip to present day: my cat Ozzy has sinus problems and breathes and purrs very loudly, and when she licks herself, there are little snorts thrown into the mix. If she starts to do that when everything is quiet, it has that same "hypnotic" effect on me...

I know, it's WEIRD.

Someone eating all gross with their mouth open and slurping and being generally LOUD about it, well, THAT's a different story altogether! That just sicks me out...
