No, Absolutely not! Aspies can't have symptoms of ADD/ADHD! Whoever says wrong is IGNANT!

I approve of this attitude. 'Cause that's how I feel much of the time too.

Just wondering this lately.
I have A.S but I think I have some signs of A.D.D or A.D.H.D
for example I can't pay attention to things for too long most of the time,I always space out in school, I even get bored of video games very quickly.
Now this could just be me over-thinking things, I could just have a very short attention span.
I just wanted to see anybody else's opinion or if they feel similar

Totally man.. I've experienced the same as you and you can find my post somewhere on 'Not having key-area interest to move forward in life' in the General Autism Discussion forums here.

There are signs and symptoms of it, but it's not necessarily ADD Itself - but of course some aspie's do have both conditions.

For example, for me I have asperger's and ocd.

Btw, I love your Incubus 'Make Yourself' profile icon! :)

I think I have all of the non attentive symptoms. I never thought I might have it before because I thought you had to be hyperactive to have it and I'm lazy. I am very forgetful and lazy and have trouble paying attention.

That would be A.d.d. my friend.

The hyperactive one would be A.d.h.d. - 'h' being 'hyperactive'.

Cheers :)

This, 100%. I get really hyper after meals too, I don't know why. If you didn't know me you would have thought I was on something mind altering. 8O

Of course aspies have ADD, especially when some NT starts driveling on and on about their neighbors barking dog, or their nieces new dress, etc. etc. Please hand me the remote for these NT"s who drivel, I know which button to press.

I have ADD. Today I would probably have been put on meds, unless, as I believe, my parents would, without any success, have tried some futile kind of exercise and diet program instead.

I don't think impulsivity saves us all from perseveration. I still get stuck on the same thing for hours and find it hard to shift. It's my medication that helps me switch to one thing to another by making me remember and want to move on to another task, usually a more important one.

For me it's like one day I have worse problems with ADHD and other worse problems with autism. Actually autistic symptoms are strong at certain situations: around people, in high sensory environments, when it comes to change, etc. Because ADHD affects memory and other executive functions it's like a constant issue. People really need to have a good memory, particularly short term and they need motivation and focus. My autism symptoms are seen as more behaviour and my ADHD is reflective of my performance because of my poor ability to regulate attention, motivation, emotions and energy. Both are neurological but both affect different parts of my life. Both can be bloody frustrating too.

Whether you are being sarcastic or not...I have no idea. ADHD is not a choice. You can't just switch it on and off.

Actually it would be ADHD-PI instead of ADHD-PH.
ADD is the old way of saying it and not many people use it any more.

Interesting to see how the Aspies think ADHD or just traits of ADHD affect their autistic side.

Two very closely related disorders-since I am diagnosed with ADHD I do know that I display the traits to a degree severe enough to render the diagnosis, but I've always had a leg up on many with the condition.

I have no trouble with school and have obsessive interests and attention to detail like an Aspie.

I'm not ever late for anything, I'm as organized as most people(although I do lose things and by "things' I mean everything I own almost daily) and I have an excellent rote memory, I do have some short-term memory issues.

Some things about me are pretty classic ADHD but the Aspie traits have saved me a lot of trouble.

Are you on medication?

I had a lot of trouble in school, classic ADHD inattentiveness, not so much hyperactivity. I know there are people even with just ADHD that did fine. It all has to do with what gets your interest. There were very few subjects in school that I got interested in. The worst math student was really good at geometry and Roman numerals. Then I was the most advanced art student.

We're all different though. I can organise myself too but it's like sometimes ADHD affects me more than autism and then vice versa. Right now I'm finding it hard to shift from one thing to the other. I think the routine/repetition/ organised part saves me from having worse executive dysfunction. I like to separate the two disorders and work on coping mechanisms for both.

On ADHD forums though I always bring up attention to detail because very few there have it.

My long term memory suffers a bit at the hands of ADHD though. It gets better on medication but I know have a long descriptive and vivid memory like most on the spectrum.

Before I came here I looked at some of the ADHD forums and I'm not even trying to be funny, but I guess I sort of am-they were a complete disaster.

No order whatsoever, horrendous spelling and grammar, run on posts by different members that never lead anywhere.

That's obviously the very extreme end of ADHD but I immediately felt overwhelmed and didn't identify with those people at all.

I was DXed pretty young though and saw a psychiatrist a few weeks ago who said he still saw traits. Not on medication now, I'm definitely primarily hyperactive but all the stimulant meds ever did for that was make me EXTREMELY obsessive and brought out a lot of Aspie traits that aren't usually visible. I'd say I had more difficulty with TOM and communicating in general while on them.

I've thought about something like Staterra but it's such a delicate balance-although I am hyperactive I'm able to focus on things for long periods of time. I do have trouble multi-tasking but different meds have really interfered with my ability to focus on absolutely anything at all.

In it is interesting though, people who are diagnosed with either disorder and not necessarily both can really resemble each other.
