I'm being tested for aspergers soon and just wondering if anybody else found out that they had a ASD in adulthood?

I was diagnosed January 10, 2012, at 47, and it has made life a lot easier.

I suspected approximatly 5 yrs ago after my nephew was diagnosed, I consulted a friend who has a masters in psych and was blown off by her saying "but your high functioning, dont worry about it"

I lost my insurance before I got to go n get an official diagnosis, Well I've got health care now and after going thru all the counselors that couldn't even say it right ( "Auschburger" really?) I've gotten thru to an actual Phd and he, so far, agrees that I'm quite possibly aspie.

I'm about to go thru the official diag soon I hope,

and yep its taken 48 years to get to this point ! !! !!

Diagnosed last winter when I was 37. It was a relief to finally have a name for what I am, and it's helped make daily life easier for me.

Mid 50s. Diagnosed 14 months ago - first began to suspect it 3 years ago.

In the last 2 years I discovered that one 1st degree relative and one 2nd degree relative have ASD too. And a few other disorders run in the family too (especially depression).

Yes , at 45 years old I've recently been diagnosed after many years of wondering.

I'm rather gutted to know this now at my age, as , I've suffered all my life with being treated like an oddball , had I known sooner or if I was aware of the condition/term aspergers many years ago, then things like employment & relationships could've been so different & much easier to deal with :(

However, recently joining this forum has helped me a lot :)

Dave.

This. Although I don't really have a name for it, since PDD-NOS is only a junk drawer dx IMHO that I don't like (to say the least).

Yes, at age 34, nearly 18 months ago.

ADHD diagnosis followed at 35, just very recently. No big surprise there. ;)

Diagnosed at age 22, last year. Not quite as "adult" as most of the posters in this thread, but still an adult.

Thank you :D Actually, it was so strange... I walked into the psychiatrist's office, told him about my life and why I'm sure I have an ASD... and an hour and a half later he said I have Asperger's, Anxiety Disorder (already knew that), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (from childhood abuse), Attachment Disorder and ADHD-I (also knew that as I got diagnosed in 2008).

WOW... I wasn't expecting all that! So many labels... too many labels!! !

Well, at least it helps explain my confusing life... but I'm still confused :?

I'm 45. I mostly feel agrieved that I was'nt diognosed much sooner.

The awareness of the term asphergers, along with a list of common symptons should be more widely advertized.

I've always known there was something odd about myself from the age of about 14 , & so in 2001 I consulted my doctor who sent me to be assesed to check my level of I.Q. in some mental health clinic & see if I was basically an "idiot" , but I scored highly with above average intelligence in the test, I told them all the symptons & thought the person assessing me should recognized other symptons I may not have mentioned such as lack of eye contact.

Prior to this, I also went to see a psychiatrist , they did'nt recognize the symptons either, they just said I was suffering from depression .
The reason for my depression is how I was regarded at work & due to my lack of social skills.

Why did'nt any of these so called "specialists" recognize my symptons ???
