You didn't invent that clap, sorry .... I clap like that. Usually just one loud clap to, and as the OP, said to "ground" me - bring my brain back from wherever it is so I can get on with whatever it is I am supposed to be doing. Sometimes I need to do a few. Sometimes I just do it randomly for no apparent reason and end up taking myself by surprise!! ! But I would hate it if I was around someone else who did it because of the sudden loud noise ...
Someone mentioned humming or singing. I often do this quietly when I'm uncomfortable in a group of people or walking down a busy street - I've found I can get the volume so it's quiet enough not to be noticed by others, but still loud enough in my head to keep me calm.
