"ARE YOU ON DRUGS?" - I guess that's sort of the same question as above.

I can't walk in a straight line due to some undiagnosed disability. I once walked into a door frame where I volunteer. My boss asked what I'd been drinking.

^This.

Also, by a person who doesn't know I'm AS, but during a discussion about it: "If some people are so good at hiding their AS, then why is it even a problem for them? Why should they be diagnosed with anything?"

Responses like this annoy me. Some of us have no choice (because of other peoples' reactions) but to hide it.

Exactly. I was even told by a Uni supervisor not to tell anyone of my diagnosis because they'd think I was a "weirdo" and it would hinder my career.

Even some parents of severely autistic kids don't think of AS as anything beyond a bit of 'social awkwardness' that can be overcome by making eye contact.

People my age:

1. So are you like ret*d?
2. People with autism can be SMART?! [Lulz, conflicting viewpoints]
3. What's it like?
3a. Is it hard?
3b. Could I get it? [Lulz, it's not contagious.]
4. Are you really?

People older than me:

1. Why don't you like working in groups?
2. Why do you have trouble presenting but not asking questions?
3. How come some of your work is fantastic but some of it looks like you just scribbled it on the way in?
4. Are you OK? [More because I'll rock back and forth and they'll think I'm sick or nervous.]
5. Would you want to be cured?

My mother asks more questions than anyone else, but I've decided not to talk to her about it anymore, because she seems to be pushing that I should want to be cured. And I really don't.

Isn't that the truth lol, every person I've discussed my autism with (Aspergers diagnosis) that has a family member with a classic autism diagnosis, pretty much disregards my issues (without even asking what they are I might also add!) and seems to dismiss my valid life experiences of living with autism. Main reason I hate the words "Mild", "High-functioning", and I'm even coming to dislike "Aspergers".

I want to scream at them, "Me appearing to you as mostly normal, high functioning, mild, or whatever you want to call it does not invalidate my issues, my diagnosis, or whatever other thoughts you have as to who I am, what autism is, or the difficulties I face in life every day!" but truly there would be no point, most people mean the best, and don't even understand why what they say would be taken as offensive.

This video is just awesome lol and so so true. If you haven't seen it, highly recommend checking it out:

(**DISCLAIMER** Take the word "Ignorant" in its true meaning, lacking knowledge. Most people mean the best, they just don't know how to react, and aren't informed as to what autism is)

Also I thought the below quote was great in regards to this subject, from: ** Many Perceptions: Interview with Kriss Hoffman **

Give them a break. They are ignorant of our condition because they have no frame of reference. They have no way to understand what we experience. They are ignorant of it, but most of them are not willingly ignorant. They stupid things they say, are rarely meant in an offensive manner. They are doing the best they can
.

This video is great. So is the quote. Sometimes I need to remind myself that people aren't usually offensive on purpose. I've probably said a lot of stupid things to people with other issues when speaking outside of my frame of reference.

Why don't you get off your lazy butt and go work at a REAL job? (as if people working in the entertainment industry don't have real jobs?!)

Isn't Asperger's a phony disease made up by people who just want attention?

Grrrrrr....
