I have been called Rainman, Sheldon (from the Big Bang Theory), compared to Dexter (both the child scientist and the serial killer), and have been called a robot on numerous occasions. It just bounces off of me. The only one that I am truly averted to being called is "weird." How arbitrary; who are they to make that declaration?

I make the Rain Man slur about myself. "Way to go, Rain Man." My hubby hates it. I just laugh.

I use Sheldon to explain myself to my in-laws.

I haven't come up with a use for Dexter yet.

Daddy WAS Forrest Gump. With a polysyllabic vocabulary. Forrest Gump is cool.

Look-- "they" are going to make fun of you. Other than stuffing yourself in a box (probably the safest route, by the way), there's nothing you can do about it. So you might as well laugh.

I googled it and discovered that it was actually about a guy called Raymond (?) who someone called Rainman for some reason.

His younger brother called him Rainman as a toddler because he couldn't pronounce Raymond properly...It's amazing what an impact that film made though. When I first say when I was around 12, I hadn't heard the term "autistic" before and thought the guy was saying he was "artistic" (American accent threw me) and my mum corrected me but nowadays it would be unusual for someone not to have heard of autism.

I had mentioned "Rainman" in reference to my son before but it was before he was diagnosed, in a "you are really good with numbers for three year old and you are really obsessed about it" way. I don't think I would use it now though. I have used "Sheldon" for both my son and husband (who is NT, btw).

I've gotten comparisons to Rain Man here and there--mainly on account of my ridiculous memory.

I was told I by someone online who pretended to be my friend that I remind him of Sheldon.

Also mom once told me the man in AS Good As It gets Reminds her of me. I just wondered the things he did in that movie was OCD related or just a coincidence such as turning the music up high just to see what would happen or taking long showers. I have also known a couple of aspies who did things just to see what would also happen.

I don't really understand the "rain man slur" you guys are speaking of. Was there something wrong with him? I didn't think so...
