Advantages of being Aspie
"Exactly. This is why I don't understand when someone says "I'm going to be devasted when _______________dies", I can't understand how they are aware of the impending circumstance and still "know" they will be devasted. I mean, death is a part of life, and if someone is in a place where you would even think that (meaning the person is sick or old, etc) how come you haven't comprehended the situation and mentally prepared themselves for it??? This, I do not understand.[/quote]"
Yeah, that's a interesting one. Factually, a person is aware of the array of outcomes of a given situation. One health/death matters, I think many people intentionally ignore (or avoid considering) those very outcomes, so when the actual event transpires...mental breakdown. Now it's natural to feel sad when someone dies, especially someone close to you. But I think there's an element of human nature that drives people to avoid considering these potentialities...perhaps it's too distracting to think of something sad now vs being "shocked" later when it takes place.
