Most people hate hearing themselves recorded. But what I really hate is seeing myself in photos. I always seem to be standing or sitting funny, or pulling a funny face. My mum says I'm overfamiliar with myself and so I tend to put myself down but to other people I look normal like everyone else. I hope that is true.

When I see my self in a video I don't "recognize" that it's me. I know it is me, but it feels as if I'm watching someone else. Same with hearing my voice. I may remember saying the words, but I feel like I'm listening to someone else.

It's a weird feeling.

I don't like hearing myself. It is so awful to hear my voice or see myself. I just get that awkward, "Ew is that me? Wtf?" moment. Nothing really special.

Really bothers me. Makes me want to scream and cover my ears, haha.

Because my 'personality' is essentially just a compiled reflection of everything that happens to go on around me, seeing myself in a mirror or in a photograph or hearing a voice recording of myself is very unsettling to me. Ever held a mirror up to a mirror? What appears on them? Confusion appears on them.

Same. I have a recording of my voice and a friends'. I sound awful. On a Facebook group I'm a member of, some people are posting recordings of them speaking. I hate my voice; so have chosen not to submit this recording.

I HATE it. I was born premature and had a lot of tubes shoved down my throat when I was young, which resulted in a larynx covered in scar tissue, so it doesn't resonate the way it should and my voice sounds weak and raspy, like I've got laryngitis all the time. I'm so self-conscious about the way my voice sounds that when I had to do oral exams in high school for French class in front of a camera I had panic attacks. I like singing, but only for myself, I refuse to sing for an audience, in spite of all my friends and family saying I can sing well. Overall, the spotlight is not my friend, cameras especially.

I don't have an ASD but I used to get that too because of piss poor self esteem.

I have a fairly high pitched voice and hate hearing recordings of it. As a teenager I was in a class that was video taped. On seeing the video it came as a shock to see how differently I behaved to everyone else. After that I started consciously trying to behave like everyone else.

I dislike that I am nasally and whiny sounding without even realizing it. When I listen to myself recorded, I think, oh my God do I really sound that whiny? I have no idea why I do. So then I practice on further recordings not being whiny but every time I play one back, it's still whiny sounding. It's so frustrating and annoying!

Yeah, I'm always shocked at how nasal-y I sound. My response one time was, "Oh jeez, I sound a little like Bill Gates." 8O

I don't enjoy listening to myself a huge amount.
Unfortunately when you make video tutorials it becomes somewhat of a .

I was recording something on minecraft once, my screen recorder kept screwing up.
In the end I recorded and listened to it 7 times.
I managed to dislike something about it or how I said something every single time too

It makes me feel uneasy but I learned to endure it. If I can't really stand it, I stop watching.

This is one I do not have to think about much at all. I too, cringe at the very least, if someone records my voice. Or it comes over our loudspeakers. My manner of speaking apparently is even weirder for ME than it has been for others who use to find it slow & a bit flat..
I cannot connect the voice with myself, at all. I find it very embarassing, which usually amuses my co-workers.

Sincerely,
Matthew
