That's interesting. I never realized there was such a correlation. I always thought that was just a media stereotype.
I have mild asthma and many allergies. Tested allergic to dust mites, mold spores, grass/tree/flower/weed pollen (certain types are severe, especially lilacs - I have to stay inside pretty much all the time during the few weeks they blossom), feathers, wool, cockroaches, eggs, and shellfish. None of these allergies is really severe except for the lilacs and a few other pollens. I've also had allergic reactions to many medications including most antibiotics (when I was 3 I was rushed to the emergency room after taking Bactrim, broke out in hives and joints turned purple). I also get terrible sores in my mouth from pineapple, tomatoes, and various other acidic foods. Not sure if that's an allergy or just general sensitivity.
My allergies manifest in many different ways, depending on the allergen. Most antibiotics cause wheezing, sneezing, itchy eyes, cough, chest pain, raw throat. Pollen/dust/mold generally cause all of these as well as swollen sinuses, runny nose, blurry vision, and terrible eczema. Sometimes the eczema is on my face and I have to use Selsun Blue dandruff shampoo to try to treat it (which isn't highly effective and takes days), since the steroid creams for it can cause blindness. As a bonus, the side effects I get from allergy medications are similar to the allergies themselves, so there's not really any relief to be had there.
Allergies SUCK and I seem to get more every year. The environmental ones started at age 15 when the lilacs came into bloom that year. Luckily I'm still okay with cats, dogs, nuts, and bees, since most of those would all cause horrible problems for me. It's interesting I'm not allergic to these things, since they seem to be such common allergies.
