Well, sometimes I will follow instructions literally, if I think I need instructions. If I don't, I'll do my own thing.

This question reminds me of an incident when I was studying to be a paramedic. We were studying intraossious infusions (directly into the bone), and practicing on chicken legs. Once I finished mine, I dropped my needle into the biohazard sharps box, and EVERYBODY asked me why I did it.

Because that's what you do with used needles. I didn't-- and still don't-- have a better answer.

They wanted these particular needles back, you see. Even now, 15 years later, I still don't know how I was expected to know that, and how everyone else saw it as obvious. I get that it was on a chicken leg, and that's the difference, but... well....

Instructions I will follow to the letter. To the point of annoying other people, but verbal instructions, not so much.

Or do they have frequently defy authority? I've heard both said of Aspies before and they contradict each other.

I've always been the kind of person who follows directions literally. I'm the kind of person who absolutely refuses to break any law. I'm the kind of person who always was quiet when teacher instructed the class to be quiet (then again, I didn't really have any friends to talk to anyway). I'm the kind of person who always got excellent grades and couldn't understand why some people didn't care about grades as much as I did.

I was that kid in school too. I just can't understand why kids wouldn't want to get good grades or talk when they were obviously not supposed to. It just baffles me. And I always am the one who says, "is this legal?"
