I am 45 and people mistake me for a teenager or even a kid to the present which greatly amuses me. It is very hard to withstand the temptation of acting like a kid, only to reveal my real age at a later stage of the encounter.

This thread is actually quite interesting because the pysical appearances of many people with aspergers are far younger than their actual age. There must be some kind of explanation for it but nobody seems to have any idea what that explanation might be.

I also think that you will never really mature when you have aspergers. We will always remain a bit infantile, naive and childlike but there is not much that can be done about that I'm afraid. Aspergers and immaturity go hand in hand.

At least you have a choice.

A choice in what? Having friends or acting immaturely?

People often think I look a bit younger than I am. I also tend to behave immaturely at times; people often tell me to "grow up" when I am upset about something. Aside from that, I still feel very much like a kid a lot of the time. I don't quite know how to describe it, but I'd call it child-like maturity.

It depends what I'm wearing, how I do my makeup and what kind of people I'm with. When I was a teenager I always used to look really young for my age but I think I look around my age in general though but like I said there's contributing factors as I mentioned.

Four years ago I was asked if I was 29 years old. Laughed with merriment over the question but refused to reveal my age. Figured folks would think I was at least in my 40s. By then though, I'd already passed the century mark.

Yeah, I was wondering if it was common among aspies. I don't know many aspies in my life, but that's helpful to know.

It is interesting.

Perhaps we need some research on the relationship between the burdened & uncurious nature of the common adulthood experience, and physical signs of ageing.

Maybe, as people have suggested, being naive and childlike produces some kind of anti-aging effect on the body. Aging is primarily the result of free radicals damaging the body, which are present in the air we breathe, as well as in food, etc. Various substances can neutralize and/or protect us from free radicals, it would be interesting to see if we produce some kind of hormone along those lines. Anyway, people usually think I'm about 25. This should be nice, but the whole process of convincing them I'm really 42 and I'm not lying, gets old, and things can get awkward when they find out I have a 16 year old before they find out how old I am, and they start doing the math, and looking confused and distressed. It should be funny, but it just gets old. I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm very short, I'm still wearing a ponytail and docmartens, and you are more likely to find me in a bookstore or an ice cream shop than in a bar or a club.

Well, this is it...the stress hormones adrenaline, cortisone...cause ageing.

Very much relate to your experiences & behaviours Pipilo, and while it does get old, I shan't complain as it does indicate I'm doing well with my health.

Nobody can tell what my age is by looking at me. People will ask me what grade I'm in or assume that my younger brother is the older sibling.

My emotions are frequently described as being childlike as well.

I'm 39 and I still get carded buying cigs or alcohol sometimes. This year I noticed it's much less often though. I've been pretty stressed and I think it might be showing.

I am 27 but many people think I'm closer to 18. I am constantly getting carded for cigarettes and alcohol while getting weird stares from anybody in the store who sees me carrying them. There is definitely something about the way I act that people would call childlike as well. My sister once said that I don't seem like a man, but more like a "big kid". I know she didn't mean for it to be insulting, but the comment actually upset me a bit.
