Do have the report edited to leave out the specific obsession. I don't see that it is necessary to actually have down the exact specific obsession involved.

I am in my early 50s. Several years ago I got a holographic Sponge Bob Square Pants Walmart card, so I could order things from them online. I am not obsessed with the character, but have seen a few of the cartoons, and am amused by the character. None of the other patterns on the other Walmart cards available at the time were all that interesting, so I went with this funny one, instead of a boring one. My older brother is in his late 50s, and also likes Sponge Bob Square Pants. I was living with him for some years a while back. For some strange reason he acquired a talking/singing SBSP toy that we both occasionally operated, just for laughs. So don't be too upset about what happened. Just make it clear to any docs in the future that the specific name of any obsessions is to be kept off any of your medical records.

At my psych place, they cannot put anything into any reports about me without my approval of the eggsac wording, so maybe that applies to your place too. You should ask the psych to get rid of that sentence if you don't want it in your report that you might have to show others for official purposes. However, SpongeBob SquarePants is nothing to be ashamed of. I love SpongeBob SquarePants too.

You really shouldn't be ashamed of your special interest. Many adults love Spongebob, including fellow member SpongebobRocksMao (who has it as one of his special interests) and myself. I have seen every episode through the 4th season and I'm waiting for Netflix to put up more recent episodes. When that happens, I'll probably sit around in my PJs all day having a Spongebob marathon. :D

I remember as a kid, I did the same thing and felt the same way about my Rugrats obsession - I told NOBODY about it, until I told my psychologist - to whom I said "want to know a secret? I like Rugrats" and they responded "well there's no reason to keep that secret, lots of people like Rugrats." Had the same fear about it being shared, but my psychologist kept his word and never told anyone, as far as I am aware.

If your parents are constantly giving you all the Spongebob paraphernalia you could hope for then they kind of already know you're a big fan of the character

Speaking of: her report doesn't comment on whether the interest is the show, or the character itself, and NTs accuse me of being vague...

But the way I see it, that line is good for a carved-in-stone AS designation, if having that will help you get services it can be a good thing, but then again yeah you probably don't want to monologue to a specialist you'll only ever see once

The last time I mentioned my interests to a caseworker I was pretty embarassed too

Why should you feel guilty about this? I think you should be more comfortable with your special interest. It is interesting; if your special interest were a sports team of some kind, it probably wouldn't even be mentioned. People sure have preconceived notions over silly things sometimes.
Anyway, why not be a proud Spongebob fan?

Gotta observe, you did not explicitly ask the shrink to omit the specifics. But, when I was first reading your post, all sorts of really really weird embarrassing stuff suggested themselves to me. When I hit the punchline, I thought, whew got off easy. This, coming from someone who is trans. Imagine my 1st shrink visit, age 12. In 1971.
