Hopefully, the Asperger keeps the child.

The ASPERGERS child inherits 2 random moves from the father and if the mother is holding an everstone then there is a increased chance of the child having her nature.

Depends where the child came from. Like anyone, they would be arrested if they randomly acquired the child from someone on the street. If they go through legal routes, like adoption or a natural pregnancy, then the prognosis is good for both the child and the parent.

Actually, one of my hubby's cats, Horatio, seems to have feline Aspergers -- he's uncannily smart, esp for a cat, but has absolutely no social sense. He tries to be friends with the others, but has no natural clue how to do it, and has no concept of personal space. The older cats are tolerant of him, but the one we adopted about the same time bullys him. Younger cats get along with him just find until about 18 months old, when they seem to outgrow him.

The good news for him is that over the years he seems to have cognitively learned how to handle the bully. I suspect the only way he is going to have a lasting buddy is if we get a herding breed puppy. A welsh corgi would be able to herd the bully and would be just Horatio's speed. :-)

Actually all cats have Asperger's and all dogs have ADHD according to this author:

Actually I think one of my cats is a psychopath. She waits til the dogs are asleep then sneaks up on one of them and swats it on the ass. She turns around and runs with both dogs chasing her and jumps up on something where they can't reach her and just looks down at them. I swear she's laughing at them. She waits til they fall asleep again and does it all over. She also tries to tackle me when I'm walking (my legs). Also, her favorite way to wake me up is to headbutt me in the face, little brat. The other cat acts like a dog. Now that I think about my cats might need therapy.

I agree with you, part of the reason I never want to have kids, I wouldn't want them to suffer like I have, its a tough life.

I feel the same way with all major disabilities that can be passed down on your kids, why would someone would want someone to suffer like they have?

I have Asperger's and I have two sons (one who is also diagnosed with Asperger's). My wife and I and sons are a very happy family. We each are glad to be who we are. We enjoy life. I did not and do not suffer from Asperger's. I enjoy having Asperger's because of the interests and gifts it has given to me. And my Asperger son is the same way. He is an incredibly happy child.

well i think im the first asperger child. in the family im the only asperger guy. first one. maybe... the child will even be smarter then me. hehe...

well anyway i dont wanna have a child if it gets asperger this f***ing distortion it wouldent be fair. i mean i cant bring my self to give the child what i have. this f***ing distortion.

I agree, though for opposite reasons. There are so many children in the world that need homes, but even for the average couple with good jobs and good health, can find it hard adopting. Imagine what that'd be like for aspies?

I wouldn't have a child, not in my current state anyway, but some people function better than others. Just like any NT person, some are naturally great parents, and some make the worst parents. It's not for one person to judge another's circumstances.
Just because they are an aspie, doesn't mean they'll start drowning babies or whatever.

I have 2 kids and they both are NT best I can tell, My Dad has a lot of AS traits and my mother in law is a textbook ADHD though never formally diagnosed. Though I know why she made such a good Elementary school teacher for 37 yrs. she has the same attention span as the kids!
My wife is NT. I wasn't really sure I wanted kids, but wife did and I wanted to please her. I love my kids now I have them and they are a joy most of the time. I did not know I had ASD at the time they were conceived. If I knew, it would have been a factor in deciding to have kids but not sure if the outcome would have been different.

Imagine if an aspie couple were to adopt because they didn't want the child to be alienated like they were, only for it to be NT and grow up looking down on the parents' aspieness, walking all over the parents, breaking rules, etc.
Actually, that could still happen if the child were born to said couple, but I guess it would just be ironic if that happened after an adoption.

I have 2 kids. Both before I diagnosed myself. Both at the strong pressure of my then-wife. 1st NT, 2nd AS. I would not change a thing.
