As long as you do not exceed 50mg of 5-HTP 2 times a day(upon awakening and before going to bed), you should be fine.
Now you probably think "But if i take it upon awakening, I will fall asleep!". Wrong. THe melatonin conversion only happens at nighttime. During the day, 5-HTP converts to serotonin, the happy hormone :)

Try googling for 5-HTP. There is a ton of information on the web.

Revenant I was just wondering what brand you take, as I hear companies differ with the source/potency of the Valerian and5HTP.

I've taken 5HTP to help me sleep with some success. I really like the sort of warm sleepy feeling it gives.

Recently I'm trying a med called Provigil, but I'm not sure how well it's working. It does the opposite in that it wakes you up. When it wears off at night you get tired and want to sleep... Dunno, I really don't like meds even if they help :P It gives me a headache sometimes too, so I guess I'll have to decide what I hate more. :P

I haven't been able to sleep properly at night since I was very little. I have memories of staying up all night as far back as I can remember. lol My mom used to get so mad because I never could wake up for school properly... lol I really hated being late and wondered why I could never fall asleep. :/

My fear with taking 5-Htp and herbal supplements is their interaction with perscription drugs.I have been taking Effexor for about 6 years and am considering Welbutrin to help quit smoking.I have gotten no effect from any of the "spleepy time" herbs.(valiarian root, cat nip, camomile)maybe it was because they were not actually what they said(no accountability with herbal blends).Do you have a brand name that you trust?I am also pretty poor....on line source that is not to expensive.

Another problem is that I work "awake" over nights...up from 7pm until about noon next day. Then switch to sleeping at 4 am and up at noon....so my internal clock is constantly being reset...constant "Jet lag".

Have you considered the possibility that your alter ego has been running a series of underground fight clubs at night? Maybe that's why you're so tired during the day! Just kidding, I've never been able to sleep well also.
