Yes. There is a higher risk once the mother is 35 or older.

My dad was 28 and mum was 25.

I think they are missing the point somewhere. As autism is frequently genetic, it could be that autistic people take longer than NTs to attract/meet a suitable mate and settle down. So the children are born when they are older. There are probably loads of people on the spectrum that were never diagnosed because there wasn't the research and information out there to get diagnosed.

My mum was 37 and my dad was 45. Although my brother who's 8 years older than me has much stronger aspie traits.
I think it may be slightly more common for older mothers because they are more likely to have birth complications which has been linked to autism.

I've read that having an older father is a big factor, but if you search enough, you could probably find a report showing that a parent owning a blue automobile is a factor too.

For the record, my father was 67 when I was born, and my mother 41.

My parents were both 30 years old when I was born. They had my three sisters after me, none of who are autistic.

My mom was 31 and my dad was 48. He was a professor and she was a student (though not in his class) when they met. A bit scandalous I know.

Interesting facts. It all may be unrelated data, but I really appreciate the responses. Been interested in basic statistics for a few now and I can see all these answers in a new light. =)

My parents were 31 (mother) and 37 *father) when I was conceived. This is relatively old. Please note that women's fertility decreases already after age 30, so even though it may not seem old, a woman who is in her early thirties when conceiving, is really less fertile than a woman of a younger age. I don't know the facts for men.

I don't know what age my birth parents were when they had me, though I would imagine genetics plays a larger role than anything else in determining things.

My dad was 43 and my mom 42 when I was born. The grandmother from my father's side was also in her forties when he was born, though my mom's mother was in her early twenties.
