The light bothers me, too. If I wake up with light shining on my face, I end up with a terrible headache that lasts all day. Though my current room faces west, sometimes just the lights from outside make the bedroom look too bright (even with all the blinds closed.) Every so often I pull the blanket up, tuck the top edge under my head, and wrap it across my eyes. I also often cover my ears with it, since I can't sleep without something covering my ears (though usually my hair feels sufficient.)
The most interesting times, though, are when I either have a store throat, or my nose is clogged and I have to breathe through my mouth. I don't want to wake up with a dry mouth, and the cool air would irritate a sore throat, so I take another part of the blanket and create a little "air chamber" with it- I create a pocket in front of my mouth/nose, followed by a little tunnel with a bend in it, and an opening at the end, sorta like an L shape. It's complicated, but it brings in fresh air AND warms it closer to my body temperature, so that my mouth and throat don't have to be feel raw or dry in the morning.
Combine this with the way I can't sleep unless my feet are covered, yet if I'm too hot, I stick the middle of my legs out from under the blanket, and I wake up looking like a wrestled with the blanket all night.
