I don't know about anyone else but how do you even butt into a conversation? I cannot even bring myself to simply attempt to start a conversation with someone let alone randomly say hi to people like a lot of neurotypicals can do. Yeah that didn't help when I was in school...not being able to initiate social interaction of any kind. With teachers outside of the raising hands in class during lectures which I was fine with(except later in middle school when some teachers did not require that, then I could never get a word in since I wasn't assertive and loud). I learned if I just went and stood by them they would eventually see what I wanted it must have been weird though since other kids would say 'miss or mr...whatever' and I would just walk up to their desk or whatever and stand there till they inquired as to why.

I guess that can work in some social situations like just stand or sit somewhere long enough and maybe someone will talk to you...but yeah I don't get it and probably would not have said anything if I was in your situation. Even when I was in college I couldn't even ask the person next to or in front of me for a pen or pencil to borrow which created a couple embarrassing situations because what kind of a college student can't just say 'hey could I borrow a pencil' to someone.

Maybe they thought you were another neurotypical and just butting in for the hell of it.......or maybe your analysis of their behavior is correct I can't really say.

Im the same way, personally I feel its rude to butt into conversations.

NTs talk without much regard to the content of the conversation or being factually correct. One of the frustrating things about relating to them on that level...

Kudos for weirding them out though, you're a brave soul! :)

I agree...Well done! One of the few pleasures I get in life in life is weirding out the uninformed. I especially enjoy answering retorical questions with factual information.

I know the infuriating "eww... get lost you weirdo" snigger you speak of. Nothing in the world irritates me more.

If I ruled the world all people who acted like this would be executed on the spot :)

The world would thus be a far nicer place for nice people under my rule

And resources would last a lot longer as there'd be considerably less people

There will always, always be people who don't get it. I don't waste my time trying to correct them or tell them otherwise...unless they genuinely want to know, in which case I'll present them with the realities of how it is.

I'm talking about only specific, judgemental, unaccepting groups of neurotypicals too. There are some, if you look hard enough, that actually get what AS is all about.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

Not THAT creepy. Presumably the OP lives in the same dorm, and they were having their conversation in a public area. A little forward, maybe, but not outright creepy.

I think is it that creepy. Some random person just tries to join in a convo - very creepy.

Defining things as creepy is in itself a very NT thing to do in my opinion

So are you saying that people with aspergers are not allowed to find things or people creepy?

Well it obviously happens but it's a typical NT-type judgement of the kind people with AS often complain about

How can we have a problem with the NTs if we're doing pretty much the same kind of stuff they do ourselves??

Creepy is one of those words like oddball, geek and freak that I would just never use on principle as I wouldn't want to judge people as not being 'normal enough' as I know all too well what it's like to be on the receiving end of this kind of shallow judgement ie painful!

It's a word that tries to make another person a member of an outgroup ie highly ironic usage!

But if I were to use the word creepy it would be in the context of all the seeming perfectly normal people who end up doing off the scale terrible things ie it is never the so-called creepy people who need to be watched - it's the painfully normal ones!

Aspys can find people creepy too.

Creepy can be applied to a whole range of situations, not just aspy people.

Creepy, as in someone who is a stalker, someone who is a psychopath, and all the other examples. A lot of people can be creepy - there is nothing wrong with the word.

I don't like the word and I'll say it again - you have far more reason to fear the normal non-creepy types than the creepy people so it's an unjust and stupid word.

Not really. Creepy people turn into a whole range of things. Non-creepy types don't really stalk you and such.

No

You think a person has to look creepy to act creepy - that's exceedingly fallacious and puts you in potential danger
