yeah skin picking isn't a safe, good stim.....you are hurting yourself, marring your skin. I'm trying to stop this now too.......my therapist told me to put tape over my fingers.....someone here suggested using band-aids which would have the same effect, so something physically stops you from picking to help get out of the habit of doing it unconsciously.....it might be hard to do it when you're working though.......you're hands need to remain unimpeded so they can type or file or whatever but you could try it at home. I hate not having my hands free though and I think the feeling of the tape will drive me nuts.....I don't know if I'll be able to do this................I'm thinking of bandaging my face in gauze or something instead.

I have a bad habit of scratching/picking at my scalp as a stim. I managed to quit biting my nails but I can't keep them out of my mouth. Essentially I still bite my nails without actually biting them off. Combined with the head-scratching it looks disgusting to others. These are my least socially acceptable stims (I think). To keep from doing these in public I try to remember to wear a necklace and pendant that I can play with. It's not a cure-all but it is semi-effective.

I was never a skin picker, but if you rub your fingers together, maybe you could invest in a worry stone? They're pretty cheap (maybe three dollars or less) and NT people carry them around too, so it won't even stand out that much when you fiddle with it.
