$70? Wow!

I use cheap toothbrushes. When I buy toothbrushes, I'll buy a handful of them. I don't like to use any one toothbrush for very long.

It's a power tooth brush. You change the heads every 3 months and they are like $15 a piece too.

Hmm I don't have AS but I do have lots of symptoms so..... I wonder why my hygiene is so poor then if there is no correlation? Not even joking, If I was forced to take a shower everyday I would have a meltdown...... If that's not un normal then I don't know what is!

My hygiene isn't outstanding, but I make sure I'm not stinky or obviously dirty.

Do you have some sort of sensory sensitivity? Or do you just find it unnecessary?

I've seen hygiene threads come up here before. I don't know if there's a direct correlation or not; I will say that I was surprised to find out in middle school that I was unusual for not showering every day...

I feel dirty when I don't wash my hair every day.

I usually brush my teeth twice a day, though every now and then I skip one time.
Generally I have good hygiene.

I have two to three showers a day and brush my teeth twice a day. I have a fear of germs and I have Obessive Compulsive Disorder and I wash my hands constantly. I get mad at people who come over and are unhygienic eg. Don't wash their hands before they eat or touch food which I too have to eat, they don't wash their hands after they goto the toliet and then touch my xbox controller and my computer keyboard, they don't clean after themselves if they mess on the toliet seat or they pick at a scab on their knee or arm then it bleeds and they put blood all over my computer mouse and keyboard.

I wash my hair everyday, change my sheets twice a week and change my pillow case every second day. I can't stand not having a shower being sticky and yuk it drives me nuts, I wash my clothes every second day. When my friends come over and stay I wash the sheets, pillow case, towel and air the pillow they used and disinfect the toliet and bathroom and cups and forks, knifes, spoons and bowls and plates they used.

People with ASD like their routines. Showering every day is one of my routines. I have to do it, and even in the shower I have a routine. You sound really gross and sorry but you shouldn't blame AS for your lack of hygiene.

I really wonder who came up with the nonsense that poor hygiene could be a symptom of ASD.

It does in my opinion

The people who wash frequently have just conformed to society's expectations more

I hate having showers and put it off as long as possible but I also know that society expects me not to smell so I have a shower/wash often enough not to smell if interacting with people outside the house.

The extent to which a person washes is the extent to which society is determining their actions in my opinion. People who get obsessive about washing have just swallowed all the advertising of washing products and are trying to live like the people in the adverts. Being clean is a socially-desirable trait but it shouldn't be obsessive.

People with Aspergers are often too engrossed in their special interests to want to bother with boring stuff like showers, it's jsut unfortunate that a lot of peoples' 'special interest' is 'being like the NTs' or they actually are more at the NT than As end of the spectrum.

Anyone who values being in the shower more than reading something interesting online has nothing in common with me!

I can't bear to have an electric toothbrush in my mouth - the sensation is far too unpleasant. The vibrations are too much for me.

I suspect this is a metaphor for me and people/the world too.

Stuff like this makes me realise I'm not the same as most people with Aspergers, who seem to be generally far less sensitive than me.

there are plenty of things that could factor in without him ever knowing it,

i suffered from severe depression over a couple of years and my personal hygiene and apartment certainly suffered for it,

some things i still dont find neccesary, i dont clean the clutter i use, having to constantly pack and unpack several boxes of components or stone would take ages, most of my table space is taken by various projects as well, including a cnc machine and a small coral aquarium im building for holding lab specimen in varying temperatures(for a student of molecular biology),

now ideally i would have had a dedicated workshop, that however takes more money and space than i have at my disposal.
other than that i have a weekly cleaning schedule i work after, fits with how i live and keeps it clean enough not to be nervous should i receive a surprise visit.

as for personal hygiene;
using shampoo every day is overkill and dries out the hair, once every second or even third wash is enough,
if i am working from home i usually only shower before going to bed, without any sort of soap or shampoo, i hate the smell when falling asleep of both soap and weat, my plants will do the trick.
